Plating Perfect

Today we are going to talk chrome. Oh, not just any chrome.. But Graves Chrome.. And a new concept by the WoodyBoater Labs. First Graves Plating in Alabama is amazing. This place crafts out the top chrome and metal plating in the universe. No really, have you tried the chrome plating on Mars? See! Jupiters Chrome is crap, and so not worth the trip.  But Graves is the real deal and best of all here on Earth, Pebble Beach Earth Quality stuff. Not the kinda crap you see coming out of Uranus.

Graves Plating is a long time family business, and Rod Graves Like George Kirby is keeping the family name alive and well. The customer service is world class. Universe class.. And with that said here is the Woody Boater lab Concept.. Ready, cause it’s Gunus.. Genus? Genious?

Rod Graves is a great guy. You may have seen him at Lake Dora over the years.

Drive up Chrome Plating. Call Ahead.. Just like at a Restaurant. You can drive up or tow up, and they will come out and remove the stuff, chrome it and return it. Oh you think, how long will that take Mr Genus. WE THOUGHT OF THAT. See Graves is in Alabama. And so we decided to go get some left over Catrina Trailers and put them in next door. You can move in, eat BBQ and do all the things you do in Alabama. I have no idea what that is, but there has to be stuff to do there. Anyway you do that.

Aint laughing now are ya!

And then when your chrome is done, or any other plating, you can drive home. See! Genious.  Now of course you can just ship your stuff there and they will return it to your house/barn/business and that kinda is a little more genius.

Here is some of Graves Work on WECATCHEM

AHHHHH!

Perfect Katzs Finish and Graves magic

Not one flaw, and it’s held up over the years of Salt water abuse

I understand that Corona will not stick to this.. Hey thats what I read on the internet.. Right here as a matter of fact..ish

I could just look at this stuff all day long.. And thats just what I may end up doing.. For the next two months.. Alone here, at home.. With my chrome.. CHROME HOME!

Perfection

In the shop

Old world craftsmanship..

YOU CAN VISIT THE GRAVES PLATING WEBSITE HERE FROM YOUR STAY AT HOME LOCATION. YOU COULD DO THE ENTIRE DEAL IN YOUR UNDERWEAR RIGHT NOW, AND BY THE TIME THIS IS ALL OVER. YOU WILL HAVE NEW PLATING! And need new underwear.. You know, from Uranus!

I have had plenty of chrome redone by Graves. Rod was the guy I talked with, very helpful. The quality of your parts when finished is world class, never a flaw in the finish.

I have had plating done for boats and other and have had good luck. It is not an equanimous of what originally came from the manufacture.
isolation all around and even that dam white ball finds its own isolation

Beautiful. Matt, any chance of running a series of educational articles showing us how the professionals do their art? I would be very interested in knowing how parts are chromed to such perfection. Of course they don’t have to show their secrets.

Graves is awesome. I sent them a cutwater that looked like a boat anchor and got a museum piece back. Fantastic people there!

Beautiful work. It would probably be cost prohibitive to open a plating company today. Glad to see they are doing well .

Rod Graves and his crew have done all of our Riva chrome for many years, perfection always! Photo is AQ 28 – EVERY chrome and nickel part done by Graves Plating.

Replated hardware like that definitely looks perfect and better than new, but it’s not at all original appearing. I prefer the original look where it’s not over buffed so it looks like a candied apple.

I have not used them, yet. Looking back on recent chrome work I have had done, i with I had. I agree it is “better than original” but that is because, I suspect techniques have progressed, their is a niche for superior quality (it really does not cost much more, doesn’t it?) the original manufacturers probably could only justify taking a boats build quality to a “user level” at the time. Most of our boats are not really users boats anymore, but then again, there is the preservation angle… Thanks for sharing.

I am in awe of their work. Thinking of designing a cutwater to put on my glass Coronado… it would make it unique and more beautiful…. hmmm…

OK, taking this in a different direction…..We have some copper cooking pots and pans that need to be replated on the inside. They are used on a regular basis. Tin used to be the metal of choice, but now I think nickel is the better alternative. Anyone know if Graves can do this? If not, who can do the work?
