Your Family Wants You To Go Work On Your Boat.

,

My new Pandemic hair cut. Turns out the Boatress can style hair! Who knew?

For some odd reason, I have had a week of little jobs around the house that seem to take all day. Like fixing a hose to the dock. Took an entire day! One F’n water line break. Even dropped a new 35$ tool in the water and well. Ugh, Dropped a new Dewalt Drill in the water as well. Going to the hardware store is like wondering into Chernobyl, and well. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Yes, Mental Health is a real thing. By 3PM I am a bitter old man.

I have been working on my lettering skills as well. The WB truck s new updated hand painted graphics.

Watching the dogs notice Rabbits in the yard is our new entertainment.

But I found a new treatment. Go work on your boat. Yup. As odd as this may seem, since our boats seem to always need some sort of attention. They are rather simple, and fixable.

A little chilly but a wonderful afternoon weather wise

She seems right at home

I went out to the boathouse, hopped into Stinky and contorted myself into the bilge area under the dash. For the record thats my exercise for the week. Good god. 62 year old fat man twisted and turned under a 16 ft boat dash!

Anyway, I had a loose throttle, and after the Lake Huron story, decided. I need to get under there and fix that. So, thank goodness I did. All the bolts holding the steering box were loose. and I figured out how to adjust my throttle. And used muscles, now Covid flab, that I forgot I had. 1 hr later, I was out on the water, “testing” ahhhhhhhhh, I accomplished something, I learned something, and got a boat ride reward. I highly recommend this. It’s mental health. It’s essential, and your family will thank you. Be safe, and get out there, and “Test” yourself, and your boat.

Woke up to a bit of snow yesterday. So I went picking in the UP. Supposed to have more today. Will our week of summer ever arrive?

I have been trying to do the same thing but getting tremendous resistance from the first mate. I will try the “I can get a really cool badge” approach!

I feel for that cat. XL dog doors just aren’t what they used to be. My human has a brand new one that I don’t fit in.

We are not permitted to use the water to boat, fish, swim or paddle due to the distinct possibility of ‘enjoyment’. Also no cigarettes or alcohol can be bought ( now into week 8 ) for the same reason.

No alcohol? Here in NY the quarantine capital of the U.S. liquor stores were deemed essential and never closed, thank God. The amount of business they’ve been doing is one of the very few economic bright spots.

The other day I spent 4 hours doing a plumbing repair that probably would have taken a professional 25 minutes. But between that and the nap I needed afterwards it kept me busy for the day. Today with projected 40mph wind gusts I think a ride down the check the boats dock lines is in order.

I spent the evenings this week cleaning up wiring, replaced all the switches in the dash and changed out the fuel line on the ’77 Century Arabian we added to the collection last fall. After painting the walls of our “Someday we’ll have a new kitchen project” (still waiting for cabinets – Covid delayed) this morning, I may just drop it in the water and go for a boat ride later today. I can empathize with the aches and pains we 60+ year olds experience crammed under the fore deck of a 16′ boat… beer and ibuprofen are sometimes helpful. 🙂

What? You don’t have a Flowbee? I’ve cut my own hair with one for over 25 years. Couldn’t stand hair down my back at regular barber shop and waiting for an open chair. Now, I get a haircut whenever I want and no hair down my back. They say the difference between a good haircut and a bad one is about 2 weeks, lol. In your case maybe 4. At least in this weather a “toboggan” would help. So when are you starting a new “fat boy challenge”? I could use the motivation. Apparently, I have no self control in a shamdemic.

Yesterday was the Walleye fishing opener in Minnesota, and in Crosslake it was less than perfect boating conditions. Low 30’s and a couple inches of fresh snow.
