Dock Around The Clock

One inch!

Yesterday started with a wonderful surprise, the dock guys showed up to add some much needed support to my boathouse. Its a small job and I was okay whenever they were close by on another job to squeeze it in. Love these guys and they do an amazing job at Wicomico marine here on the Northern Neck.

Great group!

Gloomy skys

Yikes

And then like magic! The sun came out!

While they where working I was social distancing on our other dock working on Sweet Pea with some much over due needed varnish and paint. And paint, and more paint, some west system patching, paint and varnish

Oh boy

My new Boat Dock entry. Built this last week

Paint

4 coats in 4 days. Only 6 more to go

Scraped cleaned and one coat of Kirbys paint

Amazing paint. Simply amazing

And now back to the dock. I had a crappy little death walk on the right side of the boat house. Scared the crap out of me. So we ditched it, and put in 4 piers. I am going to do the rest with my son. Ahhhhhhhh. It feels better already.

Lots of laughs. What a great team. They all kept apart, and did the best they could. Lots of hand washing and respected all our distances.

My neighbor came by after a hard day at work. I am surrounded by an amazing group of neighbors that start work at 4Am and dang.

All ready!

Next move later this summer, Screens!

A huge thanks to the Wicomico Marine Guys. WEB SITE HERE. And mother nature for creating perfect varnish weather.

Matt, you have a great looking dock and boat house. Makes my setup on metal posts with a soft canopy look pretty rinky dink!

Great Dock, there is nothing like a fresh Dock in springtime. Somthing that has been bothering me, and I need woodyboaters help. The other night I watched the movie “Some like it hot” for the 100th time. Along with lusting over Marylyn Monroe, and laughing at Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis. I wondered what were the boats used in the movie. I looked the Yacht up. It was a 1930 Nevins 121 footer. I cant seem to pinpoint the runabout they used. No information on line. You woodyboaters can identify anything marine related. Can anyone help me out. I know I am loosing my mind. What the hell.

Matt, how are you doing the screens to deal with tides? Also, how the heck do you do all that work on your boats, boat house reconstruction, run this blog, and have a job? You are the man that makes me look like a loser. Glad the wife does not know about this blog.

Thanks for sharing. Not being a tide boater – guess the walkway is put in at high tide level? Very cool set up. Our water hole Table Rock is all floating docks (and very few grandfathered boathouses) metal roofs and not much sole.

That is a sweet setup with the permanent docks and boathouse. For the most part up here in the Northern Michigan Lakes we can’t do that because the ice would take them out every year. I will give a shout out to the crews who install them in the spring as they have to get in the water and last week when mine was installed the water temp. was 37! I know they wear wetsuits but still damn that’s cold.

The water levels have now surpassed the 100 year mark and are at all time highs plus last weekend we had some more snow. On the bright side it should keep the killer hornets away.

Nice dock set up, Matt, what type of boat is your fishing boat on the lift ? I am looking at center consoles and wonder what is the best?
    Thanks,

yeah, the crabber started work 2 hours after you were already up…can’t fool me.
Nice dock…save me a place on it for a visit.
    Trawler work is looking fine!
    That boat deserves the tlc.
Going Boating today and for the next few.

The screens will be higher up, enough to keep the sun away. The center console is the Boatress tow boat and dog boat. Its named Water Puss, I call it Wet Puss which of courses pisses her off. Its a 17 Sea Pro with an 80 hp has live bait wells and is a wonderful boat for the creek. The tides are about 1-2 ft depending on the wind, moon, and what ever else is an excuse.

Richard glad to hear the boat is still around. U.S. Towboat had an article about her sinking at her berth in 2009. We will figure out the runabout sometime. Thanks Richard.

    Matt great minds think alike!
I’m in the middle of putting in permanent lifts myself. We do steel frames on our lake.
Now I just need to finish it myself!
This one will take most of the summer.
