A Whirlwind followed us home

Last week we found two WoodyBoaters. Or maybe they found us? Either way we found each other and its a true joy to see a father and son come together like mahogany and varnish. Mike Bodenstein father had always wanted a wood boat and Mike found this very cool Whirlwind on ebay. I think John Rothert had mentioned it in the comment section of one of the stories. Well, Mike and his dad drove three hours and fell in love right away.

1961 Whirlwind

This is a very well loved boat

Thats a lot of miller Lite she is drinking!

The best part of it all is how the first ride went. The Father son team enjoyed a wonderful boat ride and a wonderful breakdown. The original very cool engine needs some attention. But thats par for the course with old engines and old trailers.

The first ride!

A wonderful family adventure

Look at the steering wheel! WOW this is one cool Whirlwind

But all is good, cause Mike and his father have a very close relationship, and this is a fantastic chapter in there lives, they are both Marines and veterans.

Wow, great finish and looks to me like a new WHIRLWIND name plate

Thats a great photo!

The best stuff to have is stuff that “Follows you home” or “Jumped in the cart”.
    Congratulations 👍👍

Yes, I saw that Whirlwind on the net and posted. So glad they got it! I am Going Boating in my 61 Whirlwind Sealion TODAY!
That is also a very neat and powerful motor…get he in shape and it will be dependable and fun.

page two, I check the pics closer: That is a first rate looking Whirlwind…that name plate looks like a Howard Johnson repro and looks fine! Someone really cared for that boat and I am sure the new owners will too. They got a ready to ride beauty!

Great looking boat, cool story. Nothing brings a father and son closer than playing with a wooden boat together. Thanks for you service both of you. Enjoy the boat.

To run that motor in a garbage can, please block up the can to make the water deeper! It will be a lot more safe; you are just barely deep enough in that photo. The concern is not overheating, but the impeller must have continuous water lube.

Love the big American Flag on the bow! Semper Fi>

Gotta get them signed up into the Antique Outboard Motor Club (www.aomci.org) for some good guidance on servicing that engine. What a sweet find!
