Lodge Creek, A White Elephant Grave Yard.
This past weekend, my pal Wayne and I went on a small adventure. We had heard of a small fire at a local marina and went to see. I had not been up there for about 10 years, and man oh man.
Lodge Creek right off the Yeocomico River off the Potomac is a sad spot. And yet, a kinda heaven for me. old stuff just dying a slow death.
I don’t understand it. The buildings are cool as hell. The setting, perfect. Yet? I suppose modern boats don’t need the type of service our boats do. And so the small marinas, are sadly not profitable.
I have been looking around the area for a small work place on the water that I can combine my two loves. My Ad Agency, and WoodyBoater. Life has changed for a while for sure, and working from home or virtually has become mainstream.
Are those cruisers in the covered slips really abandoned? Sad doesn’t begin to describe some of those pictures. What is going on there?
What a treat. I love adventures like that.
Maybe you can buy the marina and they’ll throw the sign in for free.
I could tell sadder stories than that about the Krentz facility at Harryhogan Va. But I recall when that was a happening place with a really large railway and repair business. Many a great old boat, recreational and commercial, was built or rebuilt there. It was in my youth one of the coolest places to go on all the bay.
Sorry it is such a sad place today.

And I think she even knows a thing about wood boats.. 🙂
As a kid, I use to “run the docks” checking out all the boats. That would have been 60 years ago when I was 10 for the next 6 years or so. Then they turned marina’s into prisons with 8′ high chain link fencing and key pad doors and concertina wire, damn the thieves. Back in the day, there wasn’t much to steal, just a compass. From what I’ve read the cost of slip fees are driving boats out of marinas. I hope you find something and create temporary slip space for “Loopers” on their way up the IC. One day…
