18′ Cobra 001 Is Ready For Her Makeback Over.

Cobra 001 – At Katz’s Marina

Chris-Craft 18′ Cobra 001 has arrived at Katz’s Marina  and together again with her older sister. The prototype. This hasn’t happened since they were both at the factory. How cool is this? I suppose they are catching up on war stories, running aground, the time someone threw up on them back in the early 60’s, races won and lost.

The stories they could tell. And will, I can read their minds.

This is one of those moments you just have to bask in the history of it all. The universe is saying lets get back together in harmony. Lets embrace each other…from 6 feet apart, and celebrate family. Okay this may be a tad deep for two boats. But boats have feeling too. I suppose 001 is looking at the Prototype and thinking, dang sis, you look mighty fine.

I like Carbs. I have never understood the red painted Chris Craft though? Or is that gold?

Her hull card!

Fintastic

LOVE the siren. But not original,  story to come… Same with the light

As you see, she does need some work to get her perfkatz. Did I just invent a new word? PERFKATZ.. And what is that thing? Its cool. I think? Factory?

Well, 001 is at the Spa now and gonna get the full PerfKatz treatment. And we are thrilled that the Katz’s Marina team is going to share the ride with us all. Stay tuned for updates and just sit back and feel the goodness. Quick, cause the Murder hornets are coming. It’s still 2020!

More to come!

Matt a few years ago you posted a CC blue print of the Cobra and it shows the lifting rings with the holes facing for and aft……….why can’t owners/restores figure this out.
One of my pet peeves in life!!!

Art: I think it is because fewer people actually use the lifting rings these days and aesthetically it looks better with the holes going side to side.

Howdy all, very cool that Cobra #1 has a hull card but interesting that Commander SuperSport #1 did not.
    Any ideas? Thx.

“What is that thing?” you ask about the second to last photo.
Maybe it’s an anti-cavitation plate. Perhaps for the rudder.
I am not an inboard guy; I am an outboard guy, so I do know about cavitation…

It is an anti cavatation plate. According to many, was useless. It will be removed since it wasnt a part of the factory install. The light and siren will also be ditched

      What a shame!

The light and the siren may not be original, but it is part of the history and story. (far more important than the originality in my book.)

I don’t understand the siren idea. Especially if it’s not a police or fire boat. Why not mount a horn? Can anyone explain this. I know a few boats had them that weren’t “emergency”boats.

Cool header. The work that Katz has done on that prototype looks good ! Did I open up a bag of worms here ? Keep us posted on both boats.
