Breaking News: Lake Dora 2021 Canceled!

If you are wondering if going to Lake Dora in March is in the cards? NO! Here is the note from Terry Fiest himself.

It’s with mixed emotions that I must inform you that we cancelled the Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival for 2021. The Christmas Party we planned for Dec 15th is also cancelled. Last night The Sunnyland Chapter convened a special meeting to discuss all the parameters of the event. The decision to cancel was based on the rise of COVID and the gathering of large crowds. We wanted to make the decision before we opened registration.

As most of you know, the new Marina is scheduled for completion this summer and we will plan a Sunnyland Event when the City has the “Grand Opening”—–A tentative plan is being formulated and we will keep everyone advised so you can participate.

We will keep the Boat Show Committee in place and we will have a major grand opening show in 2022. I really appreciate everyone’s support and what you have done to make our show what it is. Hopefully we can all come together and make 2022 a Historical Event. My best wishes to all of you and your families and I wish you all a Merry Christmas—-Sincerely–Terry

No surprise here – I don’t think we will see things open until mid-late summer 2021. It is the prudent thing to do… 2022 is going to be epic!

Life gets put on hold for another 3-6 months. Jeez, can I subtract this time from my count down clock? I’m getting too old to just throw this time away waiting for an event to happen. Its time to make your own party.

harry why are you being so nasty to Terry. He along with others had the guts to keep people safe. Name calling is not what this site is about.

So, Mr Sleepless, Harry, Charles, and all the other names you use. We are very clear on comments and making it personal. You have called me an idiot, some sort of fetus. And other terms. There is really no place for that here. Not because its offensive to me, but because its really not all that clever. YAWN!

      Matt,
You’re just plain wrong. I have no idea about any other names, I have never called you any names, I’ve never posted on your site until today. I’m saddened that my favorite resource on the internet about my favorite thing to do in life, ‘to mess about in (wood) boats’, that had done a fairly ok job at staying politically neutral, today became a platform for your liberal bend. I’m bummed. I’ve been waking up to, looking forward to Woody Boater articles daily for years, and it seems that is ending, at least for me. 🙁
Good luck, I think you’re gonna need it.

I’ve never been down to Dora and couldn’t have come this year. So perhaps ‘22 will be my year! It was the right call to make. Stay safe everyone!!

Kudos to the Sunnyland Chapter for cancelling Mount Dora Boat Show. The vaccine will not be out to enough people to ensure safety. Our good friend passed away from Covid-19 about two weeks ago. Steve was an avid woodieboater and was one of the founders as well as past President of our Indian Lake(Ohio) ACBS Chapter. I am a 2nd Vice-President of the Indian Lake ACBS and also President of the Wagemaker Boats Club. My parents and I miss him terribly. Brian, Mike, and Bonnie
