Robert Murdock And Our Little Parallel Universe. Or Is It?

,

AHHHH! Robert is finding some gold in them there attic

Fellow Woody Boater Robert Murdock as many of you may know is also preserving an old Marina, boat yard. Oh god! One more of us and we are a trend. Do we start a club? Have a board or directors that can’t make a decision? Maybe we can charge dues that pay for, pay for? I have no idea? Maybe a lucite trophy! Oh boy! Sorry, maybe a little too sarcastic this early. Anyway, Robert is peeling away some very cool layers of the onion. And finding pure gold.

Even to box straps are cool, and the old chris craft plue over spray is PERFECTION – Peg board!

OMG! OMC!

#WallLust

The cool part is.. Part. It’s a pun. A part pun. Anyway. Sorry too goofy this early. Anyway, again, I love the stuff he is finding. Its classic 50′ and 60’s stuff. While I am peeling away early 1900’s Like Pre war, and he is Classic? I am smelling judging categories here.

He even has a biblioteca! See, we are a global influencer now!

Now all we need to do is figure out how to transport boat shops around the country so we can all stand around and talk about them. maybe argue over the box of Reed and Prince screws vs the leftover drywall screws. OH that tube of old 5200 is pre millennial, Oh your old PC is pre Y2K! Oh how cool is that?

Pre Y2K, pre PC, Pre Steve Jobs, Pre IBM, Pre Calculator, Pre, pre..

Excuse me, my head just exploded!

Or maybe some idiot will go off the rails and start a website called Woody Boat Shopper? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is all some sort of Twilight Zone stuff!

I think I have to drive up to Indian River and visit Robert. I need some more classic boat education. I did not know that Zenith carbs were made by Bendix.

Back in the day I knew a Bob Murdock who we horse traded back and forth boats and cars for many years. I learned a lot from Bob as he always had an eye out for those GREAT finds. As I slowed down, Bob just kept going like the Energy Bunny! He did so well he changed his name from Bob to Robert. Bob, I mean Robert, you put a smile on my face as I read this post, Those were the GOOD old Days and I just wanted to say HI! Jim

So is there going to be an ACMRC, (Antique & Classic Marina and Railway Club) with ACBS shows within ACMRC shows? That would KISS, IMO. If we’re AARP do we get a registration discount for an event TBA. Just make sure to RSVP. Let us know if we can BYOB (they’ll probably ask for my DOB). I’ll have to stop at the ATM or I’ll be SOL. So if I’m MIA for the event I’m not AWOL, I’ll just sent you an SOS. PS, set up a FAQ for us DIY’ers otherwise IDK if those of us with OCD have the IQ to figure it out.

Thank you for the shout out Matt!!!!
Let me just say that we are both on a course to save a slice of history. Working history, not static displays.
Static displays that sit and look pretty but do nothing are like kissing your sister. It ain’t the same.
All of us look to you each day to lead the charge of the faithful and while we all come from different angles, different boats and from around the world, you keep us all together and make it FUN!!!!
I have been blessed to be surrounded by people in my businesses and personal life that are far smarter than I am and very talented in what they do. No successful operation can say different.
Our wives know we’re nuts and still somehow keep us around just for the color commentary……….and I even convinced Patti to leave a great paying job and run the marina for me!!! Now, that’s true love or maybe the large insurance policy she took out on me when we bought the place. Time will tell.😄
Thanks again Matt for all you do and yes, my name is just Bob!
Here’s another picture to round out your morning too……

Another woodyboater stop on my list. I pass by Indian River a couple of times a year. Usually when I get there I have the Mackinac Bridge in my sights. But next time I will stop by and visit Robert or Bob. what ever he answers to.

So the OCD part of me would want to fill those missing slots on the tool board…. Id even settle for 3D printed surrogates until the original tool could be found…. so no wonder I dont get as much boat work accomplished as Id like as I would pursue these types of ADD distractions.. hmm I dont have a 3D printer……

I have the same time-speed-distance calculator except mine has E=mc2 buried within the dial, a great joke left by the manufacturer.

I have that same weatherhead fittings box somewhere. Got it from my grandfathers hardware store when he retired in the 60’s.

I stop and hang out with Bob every chance I get (I was actually there today!). It’s an amazing place, full of amazing stuff, with amazing people. I feel fortunate to have Bob and his marina in our neck of the woods. I’m proud to call them friends, and proud to have my boat stored there for the winter. This photo was taken in the hoist well last fall. For those of you that want to stop by and see the operation – trust me, it’s worth it.
