Watching Plywood Age! Oh It’s A Thing. Squirrel? Where?

,

Old tools, old plywood! Like Peas and Corn!

I left Sweet Pea sitting at The Palm Gardens so if you need an extra restroom, she is all yours! No Boom Booms please. Oh and if you are confused by this please refer to yesterday’s story. Anyway, I ran home to the railway to watch my plywood age. We will be back. Anyway it was fun to watch it age. So much so, I took photos. About 30 years of them. Okay, I have left the farm here and this story is so whacked. I got my first vaccine yesterday and maybe its a side effect. I will add, my cell phone service is better now that I have 5G in me? Oh ya. I am a walking Hot Spot. And no need for the App anymore because the government can now track me. Ya know what, maybe it’s best you just stop reading this. I will stop writing it, and just show pictures. And oh. I am sorry if somehow all tracks. You have become way to regular a reader.

Before. New plywood up on the wall

In progress. I used two stains. First a base of natural, then a wash of Cherry to bring out the red. The darker tone is Cherry on the Split pine unfinished. You can see the board on the left is not complete

The tone on the split wood matches the old wood rafters, the plywood matches the aged plywood and other wood

For those of you concerned about the white plastic chair. I need to sit down from time to time and it’s just there, not a permanent part of the decor

The board on the right has a dry brush coat of Shellac which nailed it. The one on the left is under a temp LED light and too yellow. The amber tone of the Shellac with a tint of Cherry is needed. And!!!! Oil stained dappeling and a chain hit here and there. OH! and old nails. No new crap. It is truly like doing a painting. I am happy to be alone, cause folks would think I am crazy…..er

I also found that staining the unfinished wood shelf was a dead match for the aged beams, which was a very pleasant surprise.

Now if you will excuse me, its my medicine time!

Don’t forget to take the tools, hammer etc, coat with some old oil maybe, and tap the plywood, make marks like they have been distressed by hanging and bumping for years

But does Matt have time? They might be whisking him away to a padded room soon. Matt open some Windows when using the shellac.

All of the chic moms distressing furniture and making Joanna Gaines inspired shelves are soaking steel wool in vinegar and applying it to new wood to age it quickly. It works well if you want Gray boards, but to get the patina you seek, it might take cherry stain and shellac, but might be worth a shot.

Not crazy at all. I get it. Again, when are you getting the kapok pads for the floor and listing on Airbnb so us fellow sickos can stay over?

That plastic chair has driven me crazy from the first day but I refused to comment. Sort of like the elephant in the room…

I get the chair. While doing a project like this, who knows what will get on your clothing and then mess up the chair. After the work is done just toss the Tupperware

No don’t toss it. It is watching this entire project. Afterwards get a picture of it going for a ride with the wicker sisters or on the deck of Sweet Pea even on the docks at Lake Dora. Have people sit in it at shows with a huge picture of the interior of the shop so they can experience the journey. Too artsy?

After the tools are hung, will you use a fine, medium, or broad line around the tools to mark their proper position on the board???

How about antiquing the chair while you’re at it. Smear some different color stain and spill some paint on it. Could only improve it,

Old tools, new tools, old boats, new boats, as long as something needs to be fixed….and ya got a workshop….or maybe just the boat…down at the dock…toolbox in the trunk…life is sweet!

    Whether it’s fiberglass-reinforced polyester..or cellulose-fiber reinforced lignin…it’s your boat, skipper!
