Would You Pass The Test?

, ,

1936 Port Carling Seabird

So, imagine you just bought a new home, and this parks right in front of your house for 2 weeks? Would you complain? Or actually, would you stop your wife from complaining? Well, this is the situation that fellow Woody Boater Andreas Reissmann put his new neighbor in?

Parked..

Here is the story as told by Andreas.. And some drool photos.

Perfect

A bit of a story to go with it…I picked up the boat in Bancroft ON and left it parked in front of my house with the FJ attached. A new neighbor had just moved in front of me weeks prior . I left the FJ, and the Seabird, in front of my house (and his) for a full 2 weeks. Not a peep from him.

It ran when it was parked

I see him doing yard work out front, so I go over and tell him he passed the test. He goes “What test?”. I told him it was a test to see whether he would call the law or not…we laughed hard about that one…he passed the test with flying colors! I moved the FJ and Seabird out back after that.

okay

Those lines!

The Port Carling boats have amazing lines and move just sitting on a pile of dirt

So? would you complain? Does it depend on the type of boat? What if it was a mini van and an old pontoon boat? Where is the line?

So now what is Andreas going to do with the boat? That will be a hell of a restoration project. Eh?

Ps. I did not want to disappoint John two days in a row!

That Toyota Land Cruiser looks amazingly like the one my son drove in college. A cool factor for sure and we did a lot of work on it to keep it running, but there’s a reason it was known as the “gland bruiser”. It rode like the axels had no springs and were bolted directly to frame.

Hang on to that boat Andreas. Run it on e bay again. Mabie you will have the same good luck as the guy with the step hydro.

It is surprising what can be done with a template boat. This is what mind looked like before I started and after I cleaned all the garbage out. What you can’t see is the large hole in the hull under the front seat, all it takes is a lot of patience. 😬

Being a wood boat junkie I would be thrilled to know that I had moved into a neighborhood with like minded people, and probably would have nocked on their door with a bottle of 46 in my hand.

That boat has what seems to be a control box for an outboard, or possibly an IO. What’s up with that ?

Yeah, that’s since been removed…I have a Chrysler straight 8 that will slide in nice (after some restoration).

Ha ha This issue is too close to home…. I have a house in Arlington Va I bought many many years ago. I also have collected classic cars, (60’s stuff) over the years . All are properly liscensed, insured and yearly personal property taxes paid. As the neighborhood evolved I got a few “yuppies” who questioned my collection of classics. Now mind you I only park infron of my house and in my driveway… They tried several times, by calling County Code Enforcement (who only respond to complaints). Since everything was legit they tried to find fine print in the code.. (must be moved every x number of days) and other things. Now mind you most were valuable classics worth more than their tree hugging Prius’ (Pre_i?) but to then a 1967 Camaro Convertible is and “old car”… anyhoo… in the end it all depends who’s car or boat it is,,,, Id be pissed looking at an old Searay boat parked on my street. MY stuff is cool,…..others stuff is junk! 🙂 BTW I acquired more rural property that I dont have to worry about neighbors and have relocated due to Pandemic out of the city… Good riddance neighbors who dont appreciate old and cool stuff..
this is akin to people who object to the public parking in front of their house on the public street.. Hey I am one of those, I just leave the long term ones at the curb… buy yeah thats “my curb parking”… Hmmm there seems to be some inconsitancey there 🙂 and yeah Im liking the CJ….I have enough (well do we ever have enough..) boats.. and BTW old Series LandRovers bodies dont rust.. (1967 Series IIa ) so they just achieve a nice patina on the all aluminum (birmabright) body.. the frame,…well thats another thing

Probably one of the best headline photos I’ve seen. Both pull on our inner male maternal instincts. Can’t say I’d like to see either restored as it would take away from the magic.
