An Apology

Crazy!

Well, that was a barn burner yesterday? Clicks, and possibly a good cathartic moment for all of us frustrated with… well, everything. Based on our demographics of readership, I am sure many of us here are and have been the caretakers of many over this past year. Trying to stay positive and supportive to others. You all did not get into the classic boat world by being a dead beat. Okay, maybe some did, I do want to be inclusive. So I guess for those of you that just sit around and drink beer and complain, this apology is also for you.

A Sea Lion?

I am deeply sorry that we have dissed all the cat lovers out there. And we all have Frank from Falmouth for that deeply embarrassing observation. Of all the crap yesterday that is the one thing that hit home. Not that I would have a cat around here. No way in hell. Oh, that could come off offensive to Cat lovers, we have had cats. Its not anything against cats. But to be honest no one ever brought it up. We have explored the metal in a Reed and prince screw, zipper manufactures, and even dead rotten mice. But no cats.

We have danced around it

Century Catalog Kitty

Grrrr

Wait? we have done some stories with cats?

Original Zipper manufacture for Chris Craft

Its close? Right? Lots of Katzs stories? Does that count

And even worse, no cat images. What the hell, Cats broke the internet, and yet, none here. So, today, please lets share our cats. CATS TROY! As in Kitty cats, Felines, Tabby’s. Little fury friends. CATS! Wow, this is the razors edge today..

Kitty, kitty..

Cats! Leave that to Troy. I had a rough day at the club yesterday. Came home and was taking a nap when these big mouths woke me up. Eat with your mouths closed!!

Ha ha.. But glad I might have been able to divert the attention to some of our favorite companions… I had a Yellow Lab, “Stein” many years ago… thus we were “Frank&Stein” and he went EVERYWHERE with me…. He also had a bank account, with a substantial direct deposit every paycheck. “Stein Money” He was able to finance numerous boats and his repayment terms were always quite good, being more interested in payment in dog treats than cash. When ever we went to look at a boat he was positive and supportive and never questioned WHY I needed another boat as long as he was able to come along for a ride . I have some scratches in the varnish on some of the covering boards or deck and some imbedded dog hair in the varnish , but they remain to remind me of the great times we had together…. It broke my heart when he passed as many of you pet lovers can relate to… 🙁 Then by happenstance I took in a family members aging cat they couldnt care for. I discovered the difference between dogs and cats quickly. Stein was by my side where ever I went, no need for a leash… My girlfriend of 22 years now ( no, I will no reveal the secret on how Ive stayed single) always questioned who I loved more…. I never provided a direct answer…:-)
Stein was my sidekick, and people still ask about and recount stories of our antics.. A dog is easy, they are so loyal and will do anything for you.
Now cats!. What a difference! They do what they want , when they want , then cough up a hairball and walk away! Everyone at work knows my cat from cameo apperances on Zoom calls…
But what a challenge to get a cat to be “doggish” The Grey cat “G” (kitty kitty in above photo) was a stray that adopted me and is my Boat Barn cat. He has been great in keeping rodents and vermin from nesting in the boats in Boat Barn or destroying upholster and wiring in the stored boats… He “G”, has a few favorite spots he will hang out at when Im out playing. Ive also setup the climate controlled garage that I call
“G’s Spot” .. ( dont go there Troy…).. thats a winter Guy /Cat cave with AV, etc… I just have to find a way to communicate that he doesnt need to bring me presents (1/2 rabbits) to share…

I love both dogs and cats,…the dogs go on the boat rides, the cats protect the boats in the barn,….team work…..cats and dogs doing what they do best and like and everyone getting along towards the end goal as John Rothert says… to “Go Boating” …

I woke up to a mouse in the basement trap. At times like this I think about getting a cat. BUT, I bet Buster could catch mice and I bet he would not puke it out in your shoes.

We no longer have a cat, but when we did, she HATED riding in a car. Boating wasn’t even a remote possibility which is why her pictures likely never were posted here. Tobler on the other hand loves going on the boats.

All in all, the shortage of WoodyBoater cat content makes some sense. The combination of cats boats and water sounds more like a horror story than the kind of fun generally promoted around here. Just imagine trying to bail as fast as you can with your 5 gallon bucket while an angry wet cat is digging it’s class into your scalp! No thank you, I would rather die from second hand smoke from a smoking chimp!

    I love pussy.
She kills stuff. Every morning its like an episode of Tge Walking Dead on our front porch. No rats die in my boathouse, she wont allow it. She is awesome.
Only thing my dog ever killed, was my shoe.
    So theres that.

A great theme song for today would be that Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show classic “Lookin for Pussy”.

I had a Cocker Spaniel, “Tobi”, for 17 years. He loved boat rides and got a lot more attention than the boat did when we went through the locks… We’ve usually had cats around as well, and I prefer they be outside when they want, but live in an area with several predators. We lost our previous cat about seven years ago… “Gus” (pictured with the R&W) was our granddaughter’s idea. He loves hanging out in the shop and has become pretty good at controlling mice. 🙂 But he is only allowed outside when we are out there working on something. The jury is out as to whether or not he will become a boat cat… These little friends become family and as such, contribute more to us and our world than they’ll ever know…

OK – back to reality: Boating season “officially begins” in the PNW Saturday as Ron mentioned yesterday and we are expecting a huge flotilla for the “Mayday” gathering. I’ve got one of my four boats ready for the season. Back to work out there, until “Gus” decides he needs a scritch… 😉

I have been thinking about this all day. I believe that it was Raquel Welch (correct me if I’m wrong) on the Johnny Carson show. She came out and sat down with a cat on her lap. She asked Johnny “ would you like to pet my pussy” with that Johnny replied “ move that damn cat first “. Definitely a classic.😃

An observation and something to think about since many are passing out constructive criticism in these last few days…..(this is not to Matt, but to the group)

Ive noticed that the soft core porn has increased by about 200-300% over the last few months.

If the idea is to have WB a site for old dudes to chat about wood boats and oogle tarts, then full speed ahead.

But if the idea is to gain more enthusiasts to the hobby, a quick way would be to include females….and cancel the sexism….so knock off the porn.

My local car club realized this and made adjustments…..once they got the basic concept that boys AND girls like old cars.

      Nah.
This idea set is whats wrong with the world. If your goal is to try to make everyone feel included, you will lose me… so consider that a fail. People just need to decide if they like something, someplace, WoodyBoater… and get over themselves and stop trying to give everyone a participation trophy. No way to please everyone, so dont try… just do you, and if people like it they’ll stay, if not… sayanora.
“If you build it… they will come”… the rest is minutiae and doesn’t matter… carry on. 🙂
