Pea Wee Get’s A New Look.

PEA WEE’s new name all painted on

If you all are waiting for a Keels And Wheels report. Sorry. I did see a bunch of images on Facebook from various folks that went. But no report, so no story. Unless we want to revisit the famous 2015 report. You can see that by clicking the link at the bottom of this story. Okay thats out of the way. We have been cleaning up PEA WEE and getting her ready for her perch on SWEET PEA. It’s amazing what a color change and some fresh paint can do.

Another crappy commute to work

A day at HQ with music and the smell of paint

I gave her a little harpoon stripe

Painted the seats in a vintage Pettit paint can called TEAK

Done!

Perched! Ready for 2021

And here is the link to the infomas 2015 Keels and Wheels report HERE

Nice job. I like the TEAK paint. I thought it was stained and varnished.

The little wheel is for when the commute gets really crappy and goes onto the hard.

Can you use the mast and boom on Sweat Pea to lower the skiff from the cabin top?

Okay what’s up with the lettering ?

If you zoom in on the perched photo the spacing is way different – further apart.

    Optical dillusion ?

Looking good! Now for some pictures of happy people using it.

You should put the motor on, or at least get some oars. Paddling by hand wouldn’t be much fun for long!

I won’t say its a transformation, but, wow. Looks brand new. You should have made this into a 3 day (at least) blog. So how did you prep the hull? Did you paint inside and out? roll and tip, just roll, or brush? or spray? how did you do the harpoon stripe, free hand, tape up a guide? why did you just paint the seats? what wood? was the rope sheer already there? if not, where did you get it? how did you attach it?

After last weeks bitch session stating this was supposed to be about boats and farewell to Boat Buzz, does everyone realize this is a blog and not a forum? This is about whoever sends in material to Matt or what Matt does. It not a venue for back and forth repartee that a forum provides. Readers make their comments and might check back but one is not going to get the feedback a forum provides and the categorization of topics although you have a search function. Not to be a Debbie Downer (too late for that and, no I will not post a picture of Debbie) but Karen has put a pall over “our” life and morning read. Sorry Matt, this is not your site, because you have become democratic, you’ve put it in the hands of the most vocal and verbose (in some cases) with maybe your moral compass as a guide. And I’m not saying your decision was right, wrong, or indifferent. After having some time to digest the “feel” of direction, etc, I’m compelled to be as verbose. A picture is worth a thousand words, but it doesn’t provide the whole story.

Matt, btw, feel free to delete. I don’t want to come across as “George” not because I’m concerned about readers’ opinion of this but just don’t want to cast this negative connotation on your site.

I used to whip my dinghy out and show it off. Sometimes my wife would ride it. Sometimes I’d be approached by others to ride it. It was fun.

I also have this one I’m trying to get rid of. It is the bigger of my two dinghies. Nice boat, but never gets used. SIGH!

Cool Penn Yan car topper Gregory! I like that old Johnson 5 on it too. Definitely a period looking boat.

The Cartopper is for sale currently. The Thompson was sold to friends and is in their living room in Indiana.

I just got tired of dragging my dinghy all over the countryside to show off at shows. 🙂

Don’t tell me that. I see by your liscenes that you are in Ohio also. As much as I love those little Penn Yans, I do not need another.

My original boat when I was 8. Passed on to my son when he was 8. He named it Chris’ Craft. This is him at 29.

Uh Floyd, with all due respect, I would not jump to blame Matt on the idea of a forum or blog or if Karen has messed it up.

You hit the nail on the head with….”Morning Read”.

More often than not, Matt will post a story, the East Coasters will have their morning read with coffee, and then not check back until the next morning. Being on the West Coast, I have often posted questions and have never received an answer or comment.

Case in point – few read my observation comment about the increase in showing women with postage stamps covering up their public pubes, and it was not on the radar until Matt posted it the next day. Only then did all hell break loose.

(AND by the way, there is a big difference between that nice photo of a pretty girl in a bathing suit on the bow of the wood boat that I think Troy posted and that one with damn duckies on the upper deck with that postage stamp below deck.)

I have no problem submitting something to Matt in hopes of getting answers and almost all of the time he has used those bits as a story. If I were to just post a boat bit hoping for answers or innovative solutions here in the comment section, few would bother to respond as your coffee time is long done with.

My statement stands. I explained the difference between a blog and forum and that more in depth details would be great. Isn’t that what everyone bitching about??? That’s the function of a blog. Read it and move on. You don’t have to mansplain it, I’m pretty sure everyone knows how that works. And I’m not bitching about Boat Buzz either, that ship has sailed. As Matt’s site, I don’t have a problem with whatever he does. I’m happy to address your request for no more photos, it will save me a lot of time.

Boy, does everyone have their knickers in a bunch or what.

Floyd, dude, for chrissakes, we want the same thing – lots of boat stuff and info. Less dogs and pontoons and cats, and no porn. Exactly like all that stuff you want to know about Pea Wee from Matt. It doesn’t matter if you call it a blog or forum or whatever. Boat photos and in depth discussions about the color of seats and proper screws. That stuff.

So, Matt, how did you do that red stripe and what was the inspiration?

Remind me again whose panties were in a bunch about pictures you determined to be too risque?

  15. Jeffrey Martinson
    Jeffrey Martinson says:

Yeah, that stripe is cool. Looks like a Whaler stripe. I was wondering if it was hand painted and if you did it yourself. Pinstriping is so cool, but it’s an art far removed from my abilities.

  16. Matt
    Matt says:

The stripe was inspired by Trinka Dingys, and Whalers. The stripe is hand painted as are the letters. DIY, so its great from 10 ft away. A covid look. I wanted to break up the tallness of the dinghy.
Regarding the kerning of the type in two shots. That is the comp I did to see how it looks. I am still rebuilding the cradle to match the wood work on Sweet Pea so it all goes together.
