Shepherd Cruisers, Looking For Information

It has special fender cleats. I know that much

To be clear today, we are not looking for German Shepherds, or people that work sheep farmers. Sorry Phil.. Not a new Zealand story today. We are talking about a Shepherd Boat, Cruiser. Fellow Woody Boater Alan Serpa, is about to drop the hammer on this wonderful boat and was asking about if anyone knows anything about them.

LOVE the mid Century vibe man

I didn’t even know Shepherd made a cruiser. but me not knowing something should be of know surprise. The good news, is I know I know someone I don’t know that might know something. I know, lots of I knows. Sorry, word loop.. I am kinda dizzy right now.. This might be a good time to show some pics Serpa sent. Oh, wait.. Will this be a Serpa Shepherd?

Who ever restored, preserved this boat had amazing attention to artistic detail.

It all looks too clean to be a time capsule? The choice of glass wear, is perfect, and that has to be a newer choice. Look at the tea kettle. Perfect

Wonderful mid century lines.

Take a seat

33 ft Express Cruiser

This is from a 1961 Brochure On Shepherd Cruisers. LOVE LOVE LOVE the wood detail and blue top.  Seeps like the one Serpa is looking at is a slightly different year? Note the round porthole and below the deck wood? That’s somewhat cosmetic, the boat looks the exact same otherwise – Image ShepherdBoats.com

Here is a 1962 from a Brochure. No wood, but a wonderful powder blue accent. That color line really adds some pizazzzz The Brochure images are form a great website ShepherdBoats.com

Is Serpa looking for a Sherpa Shepherd in the know? And I am done!

First one I have ever seen. Nice looking Cruiser. At first glance I would have thought it was an Owens. Really glad she is being saved. Congrats to Alan!

First one for me too. Didn’t know they made outboards either until earlier this month when I found two for sale.

      Greg,
Owens was my 1st thought as well. Till I looked at this pic of an Owens one of Dad’s friends owned in the ’70s. I think the mental link is just from the shared design language of the era.

I also didn’t know Century made a cruiser either – well, except for that one off Coronado one. This one is about an hour and a half SW of Chicago.

Never knew of those either…but Shepherd made a big water worthy boat whatever the size. Love the cruisers!
Looks very like my 1966 Cavalier seastrake…

There’s a ton of info to be found online about Shepherd,I think they built cruisers up to 50ft.Great looking boats, great history.Build quality is comparable to any high end yacht.I believe the family out in Wisconsin that’s building new Shepherds can attest to that.
