It’s A Spicklemire. A What? Spicklemire! What?

1964 Spicklemire, twin 4’s with outdrive – Bermuda Coral

Thanks to Frank Adams for stopping by the railway yesterday. Frank has a Spicklemire boat. A what? Oh dear lord I am going to butcher the spelling on this one. I think I called it a Sticklemire, Ugh.. FRANK, I am terrible at names. It’s not personal. Anywho, Frank did the gotta keep the family boat the family boat thing. Opened up the check book and closed his eyes. Do you really have a choice? NO! Here is the boats history as much as he knows. He is always looking for more info.

He did find an old ad online – and yes, been to Fiberclassics site.

Meet my family’s boat, a 1964 Spicklemire. The Spicklemire Manufacturing Co built boats in St Petersburg FL during the 1960’s.
The boat is 24 ft and came with twin Mercruiser 110’s and outdrives. My Father-in-law bought the boat used in Cleveland Ohio in 1968 and used it consistently in the Delaware Bay until 1997. The boat sat in his garage for about ten years until my wife and I brought it to our lake house in Addison, PA during 2007. In 2020 the boat made another address change when my wife and I moved to Reedville, VA. Any more information would be fantastic.

Okay, here we go. Frank had to make a tough choice to keep the boat going as a user boat for the family. Repower the outdrives.. Or go outboard. To be honest here? I don’t know what I would have done. Those outdrives and twin 4’s?

The choice was made to make her usable and not a floating museum. But retain some of her magic, and foot thick fiberglass.

Her tag

Tiffany Yachts did an amazing job, and added a bit of bling. Tiffany Yachts around here does amazing work.

Frank had a platform installed. Restomodish – A nice white outboard is going on there. We may help him age the new 4 stroker. The platform allows all sorts of goodness, a quiet engine, less crap to deal with. Frank, I would have done the same thing. This will be a fun as hell boat now and out in all that salt water, and sand bars. The way to go!

OKAY this leaves us here an opportunity!!!!!!!

He is selling the drive train. So if you want to bitch about original, and how romantic it is to use those outdrives. Well. Here ya go! I think Franks price was around $1500 for all of this stuff. The engines run well, closed water cooling and been only in freshwater.

Cool!

Really Cool!

OH HELL YA COOL!

If you are interested, I will forward your email to Frank. I am not sure about the price, so don’t quote me, in fact, its good advice to never quote me on anything.. ANYTHING..

Pretty unique package. Not sure about the O/B conversion, but it is his boat and his decision. I hope he really enjoys using it.

Tough decision with the engines, but at least Frank is keeping the boat going! Very cool!

Don’t see many boats this size with a windlass. I guess that is probably because it was built by a Yacht Company.

According to the old ad: “The boat that stays young!”. It’s just us owners that get old.

Matt, it was great to meet you yesterday and talk about our old boat. I really appreciated your interest in our story. My wife and I loved all the fun comments in the article. We have also struggled with the name but have loved and enjoyed this boat for a long time. It has been in the family for 53 years and we plan to enjoy it for a long time to come.
    Thanks Again,
    Frank and Cathy Adams

Cool boat. It is even cooler that it has been in the family for so long. What memories! Vintage fiberglass can be fun also.

    Looks great! Simple and seaworthy.

My brother worked for Armstrong Nautical years ago. You will see much better performance and fuel efficiency with the conversion. Can’t wait to see how she looks and rides after the outboard(s) have been mounted.

    Best of luck!

This is what I know about Mr Spicklemire.
In 1960 he was the Commodore of the Pass-a-Grill Yacht Club in St. Petersburg FL. I also have part of his obituary that I will try to attach. The St. Petersburg Times obituary is dated October 29, 1987

What a great show! Another woody boater destination on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing Jim and Steve. Let’s remember this is Memorial day. Remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Some were woody boaters, not by choice. And they were boating for different reasons than we do. I know I say this every year but if you can read this, thank a teacher, if you can read this in English thank a Veteran 🇺🇸
