KBL On Ebay, But? Do We Tell The Guy?

Not bad shape.. visually

As I do every morning, I parooz ebay. And this little gem, a KBL pops up for sale. Okay, not all that exciting or story worthy. But as I looked on, WTH? Here is the copy with the listing.

Original Chris Craft KBL engine w/ transmission. This engine came off a 1953 Chris Craft Riviera. Don’t know much about the engine but all the parts are there, I am selling all mechanical aspects of the boat. If you need something else reach out.

Condition is “Used”. I purchased the boat but never tried to get the engine working. I’m putting an outboard on the boat. There are no known flaws that I know of, I purchased the boat from an estate.

Engine features all original accessories.
6 cylinder, 6 Volt engine
Serial/Engine number: 63677

Okay. Did you read this, cause it pops out like a mother load. We are about to watch a mistake of grand proportions. AN OUTBOARD? On a Riviera? With a KBL? That honestly might start and run fine?

Not in all that bad of shape

So the question I have to the universe. Do we save the boat and the guy from a train wreck. OR? Do we shut up and harvest the parts? I see 2 bids on the engine already. And I am sure there is a scoop to go with it. Which I would like, and possibly …. UGH.. Save it? Save Him..or her, or parts hoarding? Wow, some deep ship to contemplate today..

Oh! His name on ebay.. jetski… just sayn.. The Boat? Or The guy? Boat? Guy? Universe? Yourself?

And HERE is the link to the ebay listing to torture you even more.

Maybe he will at least put a vintage Chris Craft outboard on the back.

Someone should sing this guy the line from the Steely Dan song Reeling in the Years…”Well, you wouldn’t even know a diamond if you held it in your hand”.

There is another line in that song. “the things that pass for knowledge I can’t understand”. What an idiot. I do love outboards, but to put one on a Riveria? Noooo!! Our only hope is either 1, He never gets it done. 2. Somebody will buy the whole boat.

    That’s how I found my 60 streblow
Guy was selling a lift ring classified as “Chris craft, century, streblow”
I thought that was odd and asked him if he was parting a streblow and he said yes

I can be in Costa Mesa in less than 4 hours to perform an intervention. Maybe a few cases of wine could change his mind.

I am willing to contribute to a Go Fund Me page for this intervention with the following stipulations:
      1. Mr. Ski has to be separated from the boat and motor
      2. Mr. Ski has to raise his right and while placing his left hand on a stack of Bob Speltz & Don Danenberg books and pledge never to own another wood boat ever again.

Why don’t one of you Chris Craft guys just ask him what he would need to part with the whole boat?He couldn’t have paid much for it if he’s ready to butcher it all up in the first place.Maybe a nice little profit on his part might convince him to let it go.

I had I guy who wanted to buy my 16’ Chris Craft Cavalier. He told me he wanted to buy my boat and remove the engine and drop in an electric motor and batteries. Needless to say I couldn’t let that happen so the deal fell through. I probably should have sold the boat anyway but I decided not to.
