Golden Eye Is Ready For Some Action.

Metal Flake magic!

Fellow Woody Boater Mike Hagan sent us in some great images of his new boat. A Glastron Carlson, known in the boat universe as a Bond Style boat. An entire category of speed boats that just fit the James Bond feel. Now, Mike did not send any captions, or even a back story. Just that it took 5 months to restore. So, mmm, we all want a story? Right?  So here goes!

Great man cave art

Even though this rare Carlson was not used in a James Bond film, it was used in a little known series of films. James Bundi films out of Bollywood. Oh! Turns out Bollywood has a passion for anything James Bondish. With films like JATT JAMES BOND!

Real film.

See! You think I am just making this ship up. This particular boat was used in a scene on the film From Mumbai With Love. Unfortunately for Mike, all the copies of the film were melted when they were stored next to a storage unit of Vindaloo spices. So, Sadly no film record exists, but the story does go on here on Woody Boater.

Fantastic details

Turns out the boat was sold after the filming of From Mumbai With Love. It was a musical version, lots of dancing and killing. And the boat was only used in one scene. Sadly when it went airborne, it hit a cow, and well.. The scene was removed. So even if the film had been saved, the scene was cut. HEY! I had to be on hold for three hours on the phone for the Indian Film Commision for this info. Someone named Bob helped me. So, Bob also told me that from what they could recall, It was also slated to be used in the film, “Dr No, No, No. That Is Not Good.” Which turned out to be.. well, not good! So it lived, and then they let die!

LOVE the carpet detail. The coolest addition. PERFECT

Listen, if you are offended by all these stereotypes, stop laughing. It’s all true. I could never make this up. Hell, here is the boat to prove it. Right in Mikes Garage. Proof that old boats that are restored so tomorrow will never die!  Oh, I have more. Roger Moore.

The Torque Thrust wheels are a perfect addition to the trailer. WOW

I do think with all this said, Golden Eye is a fantastic name. After all, You Only Live Twice!

    Cool boat, so many questions!

The front passenger seat is facing backwards. I ASS-U-ME this is to spot the skier. Better remove the stern light or the skier is going to wipe it out. Where does the driver sit? On his/her knees? (you can make up your own image for that one)

Drivers seat is after the other speedo goes in. Light was put on for photo only. 3 coats of2 part poly from James Town. 3” roller. No tipping. Sand with 400 in between coats. Do not breath this stuff. ☹️ Last coat is 800 then 1500 wet and dry.

Beautiful restoration of a classic design! I really love all the details, especially the rear center console. Was that original or did you fabricate it?

I worked at Shep Browns Boat Basin, a Glastron dealership on Lake Winnipesaukee in the late 70’s. Got to drive a bunch of those Carlson’s. They were great boats, fast, handled great, and fun to jump the M/S Mount Washington’s wake with. Good memories!
