RED!

We got some cool images of a bottom job being done, and well, as they were clearing away stuff, an interesting detail started to emerge. The color red! And there should not be red under it all. This is an original bottom, and when you know more about the boat it does make more sense, but still interesting as heck. Can you guess what the boat is?

I don’t want to give away where it’s being done, no clues. And yes it’s Saturday, and yes, I am going to milk this. And yes, I will reveal the answer tomorrow.

    I have no clue…but….I talked to Troy on the phone the other day just as he was covering the boat after Going Boating! So if he is late to check in on this weekend…we know why. The rest of you need to get out there. Don’t expect me to comment on a red B H.

    Assuming is Chris Craft, looks suspiciously like bilge paint. Putty instead of bungs suggests thin planks (race boat)or painted model. My guess pulled right out of my bottom.

    If you did not say it wasn’t, I would guess that the bottom was stripped at some time and painted red. That photo with the red stripe looks like a scratch from a grounding prior to the bottom being painted red. The caulk in the seam says to me that there was a lot of history to the bottom. Just my two cents.

    Blood! As in Blood Sweat and Tears!! What appears to be fiberglass suggests it might be a Century.

    On the last picture – the red paint looks to be in the slot of the screw where the putty bung is messed up. That implies to me that the bottom had been stripped and re-painted at some time, further evidenced by the fact the screws seem to be barely below the surface – nowhere near as deep as they would have been in production. Then again, to get it to a point where the ‘glass would stick, a lot would have to be taken off… On to tomorrow!

    Replaced a bottom on a prewar CC 18 foot runabout a number of years ago. Factory red with black boot stripe. They also had silver boot stripes.
