Lake Mead, When It Had Water! Ugh.

,

Barb is there physically, not mentally.

These cool slides on ebay show a happy..ish time on Lake Mead back in the day. Happy-ish cause she looks rather lonely. Even the highway there is lonely. But it is an cool sad reminder of the drought taking place out west. The last time the Lake was full was in the year 2000, and now is 140 ish feet below normal. Yikes.

But here in Woodyboaterville we live in a timeless bubble. It’s always 75 degrees, and our farts don’t smell. So we get to bask in Lake Meads fullness today and ignore the real world.

Lots of transoms

That sun! Yikes. But I just Varnished it yesterday

I put two slides together.

Lots of hard tops.

Cool architecture. Signage, and Miss Lonely Barb. Oh Barb, drinking won’t solve your loneliness.

Trust me, there is enough gloom and doom out there on the internet. And Kardashians. BTW, our clicks yesterday were huge. Like other things in yesterday’s story. YOU CAN BUY THE SLIDES HERE ON EBAY!

Interesting that no one apparently backed into their slip back in the day. We all know that challenge when operating a single screw inboard but some of those larger cruisers must have had twin engines.

Just guessing here, but thinking the answer is about providing a little privacy. No a/c in those days, so harbor time was spent in the cockpit & with cabin doors open. Backing in would have resulted in a “front porch”, open invitation situation with everyone walking by. Also see no advantage to backing in, in the days before platforms & transom doors.

Really cool photos. All the boats sat out in the sun back in those days. That’s why varnishing was an annual ritual.
I really hope the West can get some significant rainfall and get back to some normalcy. The water levels and wildfires are tragic.

Good pictures, Takes us back to a better time. I wander if there were any floating “chicken ranches” on Lake Mead? I hope they get some water out there.

Back in the days of fairly inexpensive marina slip rates and before “camper backs” on cruisers that created a shaded seating area. Without covered slips, it would appear that was not a place to hang out like marinas seem to be now. All speculation as it looks almost desolate there. No activity in the marina proper and only 40 miles to the lake from Vegas. Of course that was 60’s I assume when Vegas was really starting to hit its stride.
