Before

Jimmy’s Ski Boat is done…ish. I am not sure they are ever done, but she was able to go for a very very long wait to do what she loves to do. Go Motor Boating. Trust me, that will be a funny joke by the time you get it. Which may be never, but I am snickering writing it. Anyway, we all worked on naming the ski boat about a month ago. Lots of names about her imperfections. As you recall, or not.. she is completely encapsulated in fiberglass, and it looked like crap.

I used a stain in the varnish to blend the two wood colors. No stain on the new bottom boards. Reintroduced the 1961 green on her hull.

So, I had 100% freedom to try stuff. And I did. All out try crap, and learn. All this is learning to me. And some stuff worked, and some not so much, but I kept just picking and having the courage to just try stuff. Varnishing with stain mixed in? Stripping fiberglass off. hand painting lettering and numbers. striping.. It went on and on..

Stripped fiberglass and some cleats

Wayne fabricated some metal found at the railway for her 1961 details that had been chucked.

We also used Pettit imitation gold as a fake blonde look, and arnt they all anyway? Blonde joke.. It was white paint over fiberglass. No way I was opening that can of worms. The transom had damage, so it had to be fixed.

Hand doing the lettering. I looked at type from the early 1960’s and made it a fun hodgepodge.

But her namelessness kept  being elusive. Lots of fun names to talk about her flaws, yet her fun. So here is how it went down. Wayne and I were hanging at the railway just looking at her.. Names like Illugidament, Miss take, Zits, and then wayne said. What about WHOOPS.. WAIT? So I greased penciled it on the transom. And we saw it.. Not sure you do. But any boob can.

Mr B is very impressed.. ish

10 coats of varnish, and the paint is one, now shadows

If you get it, you get it, and if not? Well thats okay

A logo was created overnight, and BAM! That ugly duckling now has a personality, and character. It doesn’t matter if she has flaws, Its part of her charm now. And maybe, just maybe one day, and this could be one of our greatest achievements, someone will share some whOOps with Jimmy instead of a wave!

Numbers done

Money makers on the side. Right Mr B?

Yesterday, ready for her first ride. Note the Chris Craft logo is placed correctly now,

OH SHIP! She is a beast

Might get some flashes from those who understand the name graphics aren’t just funny looking Os.

It’s not like it was named “Show Us Your …s”, but it warrants some future reports if it does.

That is great, all the way around… solid proof that you can rehab and enjoy rather than restore… and still be working on the boat 5 years later. Cool!

The boat looks really cool. I’m glad you are doing something for Jimmy. He does a lot for you. I think we are all waiting for Troys comment. Or maybe Floyd’s

Great name……………….you are not going to believe this but Woops HI was the name on Molly-O when we bought her back in 1978. The previous owners name was Woopie Yax and he lived here on HI (Harsens Island) and therefore he named her Woops HI.
BTY his wife had no jugs’, but he was the kind of guy who would have done the same as Jimmy.

Absolutely spectacular. The hand lettering, the colors, letter detail and shadowing and OO sense of motion.
WHOOPS is now my all time favorite name.

What a fantastic job! Love the green bottom! I didn’t know they came with a green bottom! May have to think about the next time I redo mine!

They didnt come with a green bottom, BRONZE, but since the green is the signature color interior for 1961 and this one was done in BW, I thought about reintroducing the color back into the color pallet. The yellow is because it was blonde wood, and the color logo was to bring back a little bit of the pazzaz of the original interior, Gold, white and green.
