What Year Is It? Camera Fun.

The way the optics work are impossible to replicate digitally.

About a month ago I was arriving at HQ and a young guy was taking photos of the Railway with an old Pentax Camera. Turns out he is an art student and was trying out a flea market camera. Some old film and see what happens. You all know I also love tweaking images and seeing how different things appear from different perspectives. I do think this is a trend BTW with the kids these days. Analog music, and now cameras. There is hope for us all!

Pentax camera, 35 mm film

Same subject, iphone 12 Wide lense.

The way light works is amazing

It feels like around 1960’s

The office

Like is was shot…a month agao?

bad light is art light

Frozen in 35mm time

The young artist is Patrick Hanrahan and hopefully he will intern for us. Great guy, Great eye! Here is his portfolio. HERE

Cool! Looks like the young man has quite an eye. Where does he get his 35mm film developed? I’ve got 4 rolls and I can’t remember what is on them. Could be interesting. I am addicted to digital now. I hope Troy has a comment and a picture on the subject😃

I have to admit that I am not sure what point you are making Matt. I agree that new cameras take different photos than older cameras but I don’t think they are inferior. Like arguing that records reproduce “true” music, even with all the pops, hisses, and scratches. In my opinion the comparison should be between a photo and what you actually see with your eyes, and music to what you actually hear with your ears.

No right or wrong, just different outcomes.

Big difference in top 2 photos. Looks like sun was high and to the left on Pentax and high and to the right on Iphone with different sky backgrounds My camera friend said digital would never approach the color saturation print/slides have but it looks like digital has made him a liar,

10 or 15 years ago, I met a guy that bought up basic Pentax slr’s for resale to students in a college-level basic photography class. That was considered a great camera for that purpose. I still have mine, but my idea of framing a shot is having a light pole sticking out of someone’s head.

    Hello Matt,
Congratulations! You’ve created a most wonderful temple where WoodyBoaterism can be practiced and we’re all enjoying the ride, thank you! In Oakland, CA there is another WoodyBoater temple where the owners had a passion for music and the boat shop doubled as a venue for “House Concerts”. Wooden runabouts are floating symphonies, so there is a connection with Music! What better way to allow people to appreciate the special spaces you’ve created! …just a thought!

Let me know if you want any more info how the Webers ran a wonderful Boathouse Concerts series (pre-Covid) in their shop. The Marine Railway seems like an excellent venue!
