Barn Find 25 Sportsman – Picking Through Baby Chicks Years Of Sitting

Morning sunshine

Yesterday we got to pick through Baby Chicks time sitting in the shed. It’s like, time stopped. And all the small details of how it was cared for come to light. This was a very well loved and used boat! No doubt at all. Just sifting through the leaves, and rodent nests of Kapok say so much more than my misspelled words. So enjoy as I did.

She greeted me in the morning with a smile.

Her lines are still wonderful and straight

The warmth of the sun! Hit it Willy!

Okay, okay, back to the picking! man you guys are a little inpatient this morning. Just sit back and let Willy… Okay wait, that might get us off track here.

Manischevitz! Oh hell ya! There isnt one thing pictured here that wouldnt kill you on the spot if you took a drink! Oh.. wait Coffee Cups

Was baby Chick an Alcoholic? This would make a great coozie!

LOVE this step

Very cool tool storage and old touch up stuff. LOVE THIS

Cleats

Its Deodorized!

Cutwater and scoop

Seat cushions

And the pièce de résistance, the reason why I wake up in the morning, the reason I love life and enjoy writing this stuff.. Introding my new favorite boat show detail. Yes.. Still original. Still usable. Still able to satisfy.

GOLD! I will leave it all to you in the comment section to enjoy this little treasure!

Quite a collection of treasures. I find it so sad to see what happens to theses great old boats when their caretaker is no longer in that role and time takes its toll. Nice to know that this one will have a new life. Your marina may become a home for abandoned and neglected boats. That would be great!

I’m thinking you should go back with Wecatchem in tow and tell the previous owners that you ran it through the car wash and it cleaned up pretty good.

As if you didn’t have enough projects but you’ve got to keep us entertained. And you’re doing a great job of that.

I know that I have used this one before, but with that cute little chamber pot it just seems appropriate.

You are right there with A now having 2 25SP’s. Personally I think they are one of the finest boats CC ever built.

As mainly an outside observer to this wonderful hobby (I have an 88 Skiff Craft and an old Dunphy row boat) I for one would be interested in following the money part of this project. From cost of purchase, to renting the jacks, etc. all the way to totaling it up when she is floating. Just a thought.

        Troy,
Pretty sure MiniRacer regrets, writing the checks for paint & body work for this, from our joint account. He always jokes that purchase & resto of this “cost slightly more than a new MINI”.

You don’t get into this hobby as an investment venture, but the first time you splash that new restoration and roll on the throttle it all makes sense. If you don’t have that mindset stay away from classic boats.

Sadly, if anyone did that (added up the $$$$$$), no one would save these wonderful old boats.

We usd to call those chamber pots “Thunder Mugs” because no matter who peed in them they made a certain sound. Looks like the owners of Baby Chic IV took some long boat rides. Treasure hunting on an old relic. Both fun and interesting.

Now you have a pot to pee in. You could paint “Sweet Pee” on it and just transfer it to whatever boat you’re using that day. Or a dog dish for Mr B.

My own Boatress, Patti, has allowed me to wander around and do stupid stuff, like buy a marina……….just like someone I know got an old marine railway somewhere. Wives are enablers because they like happy husbands and we’re simply stupid enough to love the challenge of finding old crap and crawling through history.
Never tell them how much it costs, it’s better for you if they look through all the canceled checks after we’ve gone to that great boatyard in the sky. Much better.
Be sure to come to the sale when I croak too as she’ll be calling the auctioneer before I’m cold in the ground.
Made her promise me she wouldn’t sell it all for what I told her I paid for it too………she chuckled and said, “I’ve already figured that out honey”.
    Whoops.

At some point in time they changed the freeboard on the 25SP. Are both yours the same? Or can you say they are different boats? Ya that’s why you need both.
