Ed Stanley, YOU RULE!

Skipper!

Have you ever met someone for one second and said, hey I love this guy! We are brothers from another mother. Well, I just did. Meet Ed Stanley. I met him on ebay. Okay, okay, I really haven’t met him, in fact sadly he may be in that boat yard in the sky, since his photo album is on ebay. But I know him, we all know him, cause he is one of us, and here in Woodyboaterville, you never die. Right Larry!

I wonder if this club was the start of the Long Beach to Catalina water ski race. Back in the day many champion level water skiers came from Southern California. Chuck Sterns was one of the great ones, he took all the marbles in this race many times. Many skiers have made this run from Long Beach to Avalon in under one hour.

I can’t imagine riding an aquaplane in the ocean. They were dangerous enough on a choppy lake. I’ve ridden one and once the nose dives you better swim away because it will eventually resurface like an ICBM launched from a submarine and act like a reverse guillotine. But I agree with your comment about the possible start of the Cat to Long Beach race. A couple of friends and I trained to do that race and after falling a couple of times at over 6o knots and not being able to walk the next day we decided it was out of our league.

    Neat.
Did you know that Chris Craft sold a “Surfboard” in the early 50’s. We had one back then and I have been looking for one ever since.

“Skipper” was a stud and probably wound up flying F4U Corsairs off a carrier somewhere…………fearless.
