I was proud of myself collecting post cards 15+ years ago at $.50 to $2 apiece to fill an album of about 50-75 cards. Then Ann Matheson shows me her collection pulling out at least 3 + albums consisting of hundreds of boat post cards. There’s always someone with more. I was a little deflated.

    Hi Matt,
OK, you have me curious. As someone who is learning to appreciate a font, and coming from the “king of font appreciation” – what is strange about the Chris Craft logo?

    Fun Fact:

The post card “Speed Boating on Long Lake at Naples, Maine”.

There are several “Long Lakes” in Maine, but this one is connected to Sabago Lake thru Brandy Pond and (to my knowledge) the only set of navigable locks in Maine.

Floyd R Turbo can probably tell us more as I think he grew up in that area. (or at least summered there)

Yes long lake is connected to Brandy pond which is connected to the crooked River and the song a lock to Sebago Lake. My grandfather and grandmother were raised there and he cut ice and timber on the lake. That was in the winter in the summer he worked at Migis Lodge operating they are Chris-Craft taking guess for rides while my grandmother worked as a housekeeper. He eventually bought a Texaco station and operate it out and bought his own Chris Craft which I grew up riding in. It was eventually sold to George Johnson in Wolfeboro. For about $600 I think it was an early triple 30 or 31 vintage

The row of stacks in the background look to me to be open hearth furnace stacks or coke oven stacks. (Steel making facility.) Since it’s on a river definitely one of the two for sure. If it’s a PA picture I’ll put $20.00 down on a Pittsburgh religion location. That’s my two cents.

It’s since removed Detroit Edison coal power plant on the Detroit River. Not sure on what you were betting on but send the $20 to Matt.

I enjoyed the image of Thunderbolt, GA. It is a neat little area just south of Savannah, with old seafood restaurants and great working boatyards. To come full circle, the original boat basin was developed by Asa Candler, the founder of Coca-Cola. He purchased the recipe in 1888 for $240.
