Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and the car named Best of Show was the 1932 Duesenberg J Figoni Sports Torpedo of Lee R. Anderson Sr.
No doubt you have already seen the huge news about fellow Woody Boater Lee Anderson winning Best In Show at Pebble Beach. Yup. The big one. Not the one in Alaska near Duck Point. The real big whopper in California. Well. google this and you will find it plastered all over the universe.
Holy crap, thats insane detail and artistry. Okay that may not be how its described officially. BUT you know they are thinking it.
INSANE!
BUT! Because we are Woody Boater, and have “people” we can tell you-ish that if you are lucky enough to be at The Gull Lake Show, you may-ish get a chance to drool on the Duesenberg at Lee’s Private Museum at the reception. Maybe. possibly, good luck getting in now. The Duesenberg is being driven back for the event. This is of course if they don’t take a detour to win in Pebble Beach Illinois. Oh its a place. can you imagine going through the Drive Thru at the Steak & Shake

ALL KIDDING ASIDE, the Gull lake Show and the folks there are so welcoming and kind. Its amazing. Lee and John, are amazing hosts and have and are, making our little universe here so so so much cooler.

Wow, that’s major win. Those louvers on the whatever you call the side of the hood look spectacular. I don’t know how craftsman do it. Use to use a hammer and a louver die on hot rods but they would all be the same size.
That’s what I was thinking, Floyd – amazing craftsmanship to make those curved, size-graduated louvers.
Question to the Woody Boater universe… was there ever a marine conversion of the Dusenberg engine and are any still out there? Love the boat tail!

Speaking of cars and engines like this, I have a Mid twenties marine Packard straight model 1M 357 left hand rotation motor that needs a manifold, distributor and a tail shaft.

When you say “being driven back”, do you mean transported in a trailer? Or truly driven, under it’s own power, with it’s tires actually on the pavement? The latter would be awesome, but crazy!

A Pebble Beach (California) Concourse requirement is that the car must be mechanically sound and driven onto the show grounds. An optional element of the show is an approximately 40 mile road tour where the show cars drive around the Monterey Peninsula. I will not say that all cars participate in this tour, but many (more than 50% ?) do. My mother-in-law lives a short distance from this route and many of her neigbhors put up a shade structure and watch the parade.
I also see many car transport trucks when I am down for the show, they park in the old polo fields next to the golf course. My guess is that this car will be transported home…
Thanks for the info, Chuck. I’d read that the cars there had to be driven on & off the show field, but assumed they otherwise were otherwise strictly trailered.
My husband & son were out there last November, for the Velocity Invitational at Laguna Seca. Dennis Racine had invited our son to co-drive his car in the Minis vs Mustangs event there. And my husband crewed for them. They won!

Thanks for your reply and great to hear the your son and husband drove and won at Laguna Seca…The only time I was on the Laguna Seca track was for the Otter Classic which is of the two wheel manually powered event….So I don’t really want to discuss lap times
Bicycling down the Corkscrew would be a thrill, but those up hills would be a challenge! Videos show lap times in Dennis’ Mini were mostly in the 1:48s, slipping to 1:49s in the dark.
Congratulations Lee and Penny !!! That is quite an honor, that does not come easily. You have a right to be proud. No Kelly I think the only time the car will be driven is on to a climate controlled trailer maybe with padded walls. They have to take care of their special baby😃
