Today Marks 6,000 Stories. Who Would Have Thunk It Possible?

Today we have reached a milestone of sorts. Todays story is the 6,000th one published. SIX THOUSAND. Not one day missed in over 15 years. Which leads of course to the larger question. WHY? The answer is simple. I don’t know. I have never known. And probably will never know. I remember being asked early in the under 1000 story days. One thing is for sure, I have ALWAYS tried to make it about you, the passion and the world it revolves within. I do get some personal joy from the artwork and jokes. The bad spelling and I don’t give a ship part of it is a wonderful release of sorts. Nothing here is about stress or rules or anything other than fun.

As we rebuild the site…again, yes.. long story, the joke has been behind the scenes. This should be fun, and if it breaks it breaks. Hell, we even discussed going live with the train wreck, and involving all of you in the mess. But its such a mess, you would be able to comment are participate. The problem actually is the 6,000 stories. Its 55 Gigs of space, with 15 years of broken story links, 3 different formats all bundled in a dysfunctional family.

Still cracks me up – Kanen must be a pre curser to Karen.

Anyway, today is 6000, and some other stats. Over 90,000 comments. All the approved ones. I see each one which is a job unto its self. The Spam filters are working, blocking over 1,200,000 spam comments this year alone. SPAM is the the VD of the internet.  The people that perpetrate this should be strung up and turned into…. well SPAM..

Looking FORWARD – We will be moving about 5,000 of the stories to a farm in the country side to enjoy the rest of there lives. We have ways of finding the good stories that have made a difference. The Golden Pond boat find, zipper stories and so on. But the stories no one have clicked on in a while we will be  sent to the farm.

Please flush when you leave

Thank you from the bottom of my bilge for your support, sense of humor and kind words, you all are the fuel that keeps this going.  With only the occasional leak.

Does that farm in the countryside have a lake and a boat ramp. Maybe I can go there with those 5000 stories.
Congrats on the 6k. I think I was there with you for most of them and look forward to many more mornings spent with WoodyBoater and coffee!

When I first found WB I thought it was so cool I went back and read all of the previous posts until I was caught up, and I’ve read every one since. It’s part of my routine like the 2 cups of hot dark coffee I brew every morning. It’s probably about time I get a varnish mug to complete the experience. Thanks Matt.

Matt: Congratulations on your 6000 story – I’m not sure how you do it. Like many others I read Woodyboater over my morning coffee as part of my daily ritual.

That being said, however, I’m a little freaked today, however, as this morning, of all days to happen, I dropped and broke my “Woodyboater” mug. I hope this in not a bad omen. Fortunately, I do have three more as replacements.

Amazing…. At my age I have forgotten when I started reading. 6,000…Wow! I maybe wrote 6? And you and Texx had to rework them! Made me look like an accomplished author 🙂 Time for coffee in my mug, maybe I will put on my “life in the past lane” T-shirt to celebrate you! Many thanks! And a challenge to readers to match my monthly donation!

    Content. It’s all about content.
And you have had BOATLOADS to choose from in our crazy world. Your stories are the best, your tongue in cheek humor most welcome and the FUN quotient is off the charts. “To say nuthin’ about needin’ spelcheque neither!!!!”
Your artistic talents and feng sui attitude for perfection at the Railway is wonderful to watch happen too.
THANK YOU for being our keeper of the flame and everything non-PC alive for kicks and giggles.
Very much looking forward to the next 6K stories………as I get closer to my own official sell-by date this year!
    Rock on.

What can I say that already has not been said, but THANKS !!! 6000 stories, Congratulations !! And three of them have been mine. It makes me proud to think I have been “published ” in such a place. You have brightened many a morning for me. Keep it up. If you run low on stories, us commenters will pull you through. We have been known to drift from the subject matter. What a great place on the internet you have created and kept going. Thanks again.

Thanks for all you do Matt. You’ve come a long way from the original Blog site. I was working for the government back then and couldnt log on to the site on my work computer because it said you were “Suspicious”
Go figure. Maybe it was the spelling.

I found this site around 2010, when I got back into woody boating. I too have read every story since then, and also contributed several stories. While I have not posted comments as much as I used to, I still lurk every morning, and reread posts the next day to see who added comments after I was on. Keep up the good work and we hope to visit the railway soon.

I suspect there are many that read your masterpieces each morning and like me, do not comment. I love the stories. Thank you and keep up the great work!

Congratulations, Matt. I have enjoyed reading your daily dose of WoodyBoaterdom musings. I can’t imagine how you do it. I consider my self a dry land sailor, since I haven’t owned a boat since my 14′ CC Kit boat in 1960. However I am practically as passionate about boating as one who does have a boat. Keep up the good work.

As an old magazine writer and editor the thought of pumping out 6,000 stories is a body blow I couldn’t survive. My hat, helmet and Nomex head sock are off to you, Matt. Very well done.

Dear Matt, have you ever considered publishing a physical book of “greatest hits” stories and photos?
