I Know, I Know, Put The Railway On The Shelf

New Table made from a Piedmont tobacco chair that was trashed

Todays story may seem like a repeat, but its not, its all fine tuning, and small details in the office that are getting even more dialed in. Like the shelfs made from raw cedar and the old corbels. And yes you could put an engine up there, but any smaller and it would fit the look. Also one of the largest differences is the Shellac being applied on the raw wood. GOOD GOD, that wood has a drinking issue.

The new shelf above the doors and windows acts as a border of sorts. The walls are now also stained and coated

I have been trough about two gallons of this stuff. BUT! It’s perfect for the look, its aged, not glossy and dries in a minute. And blends it all in together with a perfect little pop!

See the color difference near the globe. thats the covering vs no covering. Work in progress

Shelf details, thats 2×6 raw cut White Cedar, which is the same wood as the split panel boards

The shelf above the bathroom, and if you see the pun.. One of my favorite little easter eggs in the place..

And for those of you ..okay and me that are ready for some boat, as in boats not the universe around them, we do have some very cool Greg Wallace stuff coming. We are waiting for Greg to learn how to use his computer. Dam dial up. And the Berlin Bureau is working on A Woody Boater radeo station for us. He doesn’t know he is yet, but he is. STAY TUNED. And yes it will be RadEo. I never get that right and so there ya have it. We also have a story on why we are all cheapskates, and Website updates. Progress is being made thanks to Bill Basler and Scott Sawyer.

    ABM: Got it!

I want to go back to your story yesterday because it plays into today’s story. Sonos sounds great for what it is and is super convenient. But in the spirit of the place I thought you’d be into some vintage audio: A classic Marantz or Macintosh Receiver, some 70’s era vintage JBL’s or Klipsch Hereseys, and a Thorens turntable with some vinyl. Properly reconditioned you can’t beat the sound. You could still hook up a Sonos controller, if that’s your jam. I’m guessing your son Ham is rocking a set up like that at Lowtimers. It’s also a whole new rabbit hole you can dive into.

Thank you Rabbit! I did not connect the ABM burgee with the “head” until you pointed that out. Da!

Yes they are sawn on the band saw, sorry, and yes Rabbit, finding an old tube driven reciever is a goal. Sonos has that digital converter that makes that work, and I am all over that. AND its Bulls Eye, only because its available at the hardware store. 25 per qt,

I agree with the shellac soaking up in raw wood. Our kitchen is a 1950’s built-in-place original, not prefabbed cabinets. The builder originally finished them in orange shellac. When I refinished the kitchen, I also built an island to match. That pine was like a sponge.

Don Palmer could certainly be the “go to guy” for your tube amp/sound system! I won’t go into details, but it would be worth it to reach out to him. There is a reason the Chris Craft runabout he used to have was named “Analog” …

In all my many years I don’t think I have ever used any Shellac? Will have to try it.

OK, you talked me into it. Here is a picture of my system about 6 years ago. It included an HH Scott tube tuner, a McIntosh C20 tube preamplifier, and a homemade 300B tube amplifier on the bottom.
I have since moved on to other tube gear. Let me know Matt, I can hook you up!

Matt, when you put the metal panels on the ceiling there were comments regarding a future rain of rust particles. Interested to know if you have that problem? Did you seal it somehow?
