Woody Boater Has Gone To The Dogs This Week!

Oreo in front of the Reedville Stack on her way out on her first trip on a boat. She was very happy to say the least. Send us your photos!

While we were waiting on News from the Mikkelson Collection last week, we did a short story on Oreo our new crew member of the Woody Boater gang. Well we hit a nerve  and the photos have started rolling in. To start off Woody Barker Week,  we wanted to point out a fantastic effort that is being made by our fellow Woody Boaters at Antique Boat America in Clayton New York who raise money each year for “Golden Retrievers in Need”. They readily accept, boats, cars, trailers and memorabilia for donation and present 100% of the proceeds to this worthy organization.

The “donator” is also presented with a charitable tax receipt and folks readily step up and present items which will go to save dog’s lives ! I think most of us would happily trade places with the Golden comfortably situated in the rear of the Chris Craft Triple as shown above.

Many of the donated items will be sold at this year’s Clayton Boat Auction to be held on August 4th as a feature of the Antique Boat Museum’s , Annual Antique Boat Show.

Woody Boater asks that anyone wishing to consign and item should contact Peter Mellon at Antique Boat America: 1-800-675-4089.

You can find out more here at the Donation Website.

Send us your images of your 4 legged crew to Matt@WoodyBoater.com Put in the subject “Crew”. For a week of fun here at Woody Boater.

Got to say your rat dog certinatly has that period correct patina , matches the boat perfectly.

Great Pooch Matt, clip the toenails and spray with “end dust” and that bundle of energy will cleanup the whole boat!

I used to try to get the boat’s speed just right so my dog’s ears would not lie flat down, nor flap in the wind, but would float weightlessly mid-way. He’d get this “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh” look on his expressive face. Of course, it wasn’t always fun and games. There was that time when we pointed out some deer taking a drink at the shore and he jumped right in after them. While we were moving.

What makes classic boating better? Taking your dog along for the ride. Good boats and good dogs both give you more back than they take. In the long run that is.

Just noticed the banner caption: “Woody Barker Week.” Would be ironic if someone sent in a pic of a dog named Bob.

    Bob Barker.

    Cue the crickets.

    Transmission?
    Drive shaft?
    Blowout?
    Lengthy flight delay?

Oh wait, that last one would be Mayer…
