Varnish Dancing, Oh, It’s The Way To Go.

,

Peale watching it all flow out

Thanks for all the outboards yesterday, the more we look at the Sea King 14 footer, the more we are thinking that a large 25HP may be to much weight for the boat.  Along the way while varnishing the Sea King, a certain rhythm has emerged. A varnish dance of sorts. We are now on the 4th coat, and stuff is starting to take shape.  So what is the Varnish Dance. Well it’s the roll and tip dance.

One person rolls and the other tips. Its about a 30 minute symphony of applying that amber goodness, and then the best part. Sitting and watching it all flow out.  Of course there is the pain and agony of watching bugs and dust find there way to that glossy goodness. But these are build coats. For the next two coats, I think we may need some more private space. . Oh boy!

Peale wondering how this is the same boat.

The sides are a tad tougher to do since this sort of molded plywood has a bit more texture. But Peale did an amazing job stripping it

The small area that rot had created a hole. I have been slowly using a stained varnish in that area to blend it all together. A little here and there.

Oh the next two coats are going to be insane. Or? Not?

Is that a bug walking across my new finish?

How do my Wards Sea King water skies fit into this? I would let them go for a song to a good home if their is a connection.

Looking great and I would say that a 15-18 hp would be nice on there. And just to get out there and not worry about speed even a 10 might work

hang the 25 on it; you will be fine if you have a threaded rod threw both sides of the transom support

My recollection is that circa 1957 my 14′ Montgomery Ward Sea King with 22 HP Montgomery Ward outboard did about 22 MPH. The soft chine made for a lot of roll in turns but it was not overpowered. Learned to waterski with this boat.
