Ever wonder why there are copyright and trademark laws? Well, its called brand confusion. One company leverages the brand equity from another to gain some image. Have you seen it yet? Cal-Craft. I am not sure, but would guess this is not a Chris-Craft product and the legal team at Chris – Craft would have taken a shot at this. Yes Chris Craft did make trailers. But they were branded at Chris – Craft.

Remember though that CC was not above stealing brand stuff. Being the biggest boat company they thought they could just steal the Bertram/Hunt hull design…..wrong….Bert won though as usual the suit took time to hit. CC had to destroy hulls…but the few that are still out there are stone classics.

John: There is a nice example of that boat for sale at a very reasonable price in Rhode Island. Just search Yachtworld.
CC was also sued by Mercury for their outboards as I recall.
There is a difference (legally) between borrowing/stealing technology (patent) vs names and logos (trademarks).
M-Fine has a claim…if not a trademark or patent…on BACON!
Troy, NOT the right boat….search on youtube for Chris Craft 30 sport fistherman and see “Dirty Bertie”….great boat and neat story about the heist and suit.
Chris Craft also went after Rybovich with their “Chrisovich” sportfisherman. They were about 40 ft. as remember with tumble home at transom that blended into moderate flair at midships and a broken sheer, very Rybovich look that was later adopted by the custom builders in the outerbanks (and myself, I designed and built several boats with those characteristics, and a couple boats for Crown Marine in Deltaville, VA.) I remember it being called a “Chrisovich” I just don’t remember if that was Chris Craft doing it or owner/dealers, etc. In the early 1960’s as I remember. Very short lived!
