A Moment Of Silence Please: The Citizens Of Woodyboaterville Mourn The Loss Of Lancaster Hats.
Gents.. Sorry.. Your going to have to loose that weight after all. Your supplier of sexy yacht caps is no more. Lancaster Caps.. in business since 1929 has shut its doors for good. What’s to blame.. California labor laws made making the caps at a competitive price point impossible. This has been a family business for close to 90 years. Moving out of California was not an option according to the owner. I suppose the over 60 sexy Woody Boater Skipper caps sold last year was not enough. Along with us here, they sold to Police Departments, Fire Depts… Military, and Hollywood. Having done many of the hats for the film Pearl Harbor. I am sick to my fat stomach. UGH.. The good news though is that we were the very last order of hats out of Lancaster and are receiving our shipment on Friday. All are sold though. I do have some dead beat payers though, and if they do not come through. I will bring the extra hats to FLA in 7 DAYS… no mail order again. I may have 1 or 6.. and they are all in different sizes. So I cannot predict or “save one” it will be a first come first serve basis. I know I am performing horrendously poor customer service. Something that I am proud of since we really hate selling stuff anyway. i would just rather give it all away. The readers of Woody Boater contribute so much as it is. The Sexy Skipper cap thing, just became a way to pass along some savings to our readers. We will not settle for the cheap costume hats and vow to look for another alternative. Stay tuned.. Stay Proud Mr or Miss Woody Sexy Skipper Boater!
Dear Woody Boater, Please watch your expletive deletives. Shoot that shut.
Huh?
HA, how did i miss that.. I am laughing so hard… No one will know what happened though now. Lets just say I made the grandest typo on the word Shut!A new Woodyboaterism is Born.. I don’t give a shut.. Your shutting me? your full of shut… Thanks
Not top mention shutting your drawers. That’s another problem as well….all too common in this economy.
Lancaster Caps, thanks for a great run and as Uncle Milty said, “Goodnight Gracie”.
…and as Jimmy Durante used to say “Good night Mrs. Kalibash, where ever you are”.
Seems like we shouold have amock viking funeral or something at Tavares for Lancaster hats . . .
I am game.. Fire, Boats.. Hats.. A party.. What could be better
I think everyone has been off drinking green beer already this morning based on the comments so far………………….
Glad to have ordered one, not happy to hear when a family business has no alternative but to shut down because of politics! I will wear mine with pride just as soon as it arrives to my mail box!
A Big THANKS to Matt for going out of his way all these years and for Lancaster!! RIP protector of heads
Sincerely,
David M Pickard
Holy Shut, Batman
And we wonder why all of our manufacturing is being farmed out to other countries? like in life we are our own worst enemies!
Its sad and frustrating. They refused to lower there standards. I applaud that. But in the end, they are gone. A sad reality of economics, politics and small minded governments. People lost there jobs in the end, and who does that help? I am on the search for another company or provider but they have to have history and quality
Those sure were pretty hats. Not sure what the “labor” being affected by the laws was, since their website (still up) describes their business as having moved 30 yrs ago “towards automation; to de-skill operations, increase productivity, and maintain quality.” Did the machines go on strike? Anyway, with that being the basis, I’m sure we’ll be getting the same stuff from China any day now…
I will look too, and forward any possible candiadates to you. (If any exists)
Well As usual, California has forced another business to shut down, and the politicains can’t figure why things are to hell !!! Scooter
Matt, No green on the banner for St. Patrick’s Day? Ok I’m Sicilian, but still at least the lettering.
we were laughing so hard, we had tears rolling down our cheeks…
and then felt horrible that Lancaster had to close; it should have never happened.
Hey Matt
I was going to bring a official Super bowl Green Bay Packer cheese head to trade in on a Lancaster hat. O well I guess I will just keep it, I wounder how it is repelling radiation. Happy St Patty’s day P. S. It”s me birthday!
I feel fortunate to have ordered mine before they shut down shop.
Sorry to see them go. Thanks Matt for making it happen!
I may even wear it.
Good thing you hooked your own son with one of these. Rocking Colorado and California in style even more. Thanks Dad
Lancaster probably could have done a better job marketing themselves and their products, as you’ve proven, Matt. Maybe someone should buy up their old patterns and supplies and make a go under new management? Anyway, I have confidence you’ll be able to spec out another quality hat from an American manufacturer. Use the LanCap as the template. I’m looking forward to getting my pre-ordered hat when you get back from Florida!
Again the government shuts down another business… due to regulations… Lets regulate all businesses out of business.
How do I get a Lancaster Hat?
Thank you,
Jim Busby
