A New Day, Okay, The Next Day, Of Many More Days To Come.

, ,

Yesterday around 4 PM the new WoodyBoater went live, and in no time 35 comments.

WOW, it’s wonderful to know you all are still here. I know Greg needed some shock therapy to stay alive. It’s okay Greg,  it was just a long nightmare, Plug away. And Art is still trying to figure out how to comment. And Paul Harrison  just commented an emoji? OH GOD! Is he speechless? Or waiting for a spew? We will find out soon in Lake Dora.

This may sound strange, but I missed all of you.

Even Dim, I didn’t realize this emotion would take over. Anyway, today we are just gonna milk the launch a little more.  And some more info on the new site.

The headers will be a little more evergreen.

As in not changed daily. But will change, with photos and video as needed. And not cary over to the story page, and as you can tell, each image is header size. Oh ya, so it’s not less headers but more. Photography has been a key ingredient for us here. Just wait for some Dane, Lapkin, Kent O, and Kays gold. The Archives is all 6,000 stories and 50,000 images.

Some issues we know about.

On many stories the images are all different sizes, and I need to manually go through them and fix them. So that will take some time, and some have double images, that also will be repaired on may of them.

Ad banners are on the home page only.

On subsequent pages, we will have space for other info, but I do like the clean feeling. I will add, that to many it may be a bit odd of a feel, but over a week or so you get used to it, and going back seems a bit crazy busy. So thats being worked out. Like a new barn, it fills up. Nature deplores a vacuum.

So enjoy, we are here for you and now for the next generation of you, even though they don’t give a ship.. But they will.  For them kids, we also took great care to make it all work on your phone and ipad. Yup, it was like designing three different sites in one. Here the intro video again in case you missed it. Tomorrow, behind the scenes of how it was produced. Milk will be served.

Since we are all new and refreshed, I thought it would be a good time for a shameless plug. The Michigan gang is getting ready for two big parties this year. Algonac on June 24th and Port Huron on September 9th. Mark your WoodyBoater calendars!

    Looking great!!!!!

Tried to comment yesterday, but even the new WB won’t take a picture straight off the I-phone so it went to Davey Jones Locker.

    Good to have you back!

Troy, the inability to upload a photo directly from iPhone can be traced back to Apple’s proprietary HEIC format. On your photo library, you likely have HEIC photos enabled. This is the technology that brings you Live Photos as well as much higher quality/lossless compression, etc. It is a great format, but the other web-based technologies have had to catch up. After your comment, I changed some things around and added new functionality to allow for HEIC photo format as well as a few others, PDFs, doc, mp4, mov, etc. Post away.

Mike, the easiest way is to visit http://gravatar.com. Take a few seconds to set up your account then follow the steps to create your avatar…aka “gravatar. The advantage of doing this on gravatar is that your new profile image will be associated with your name and username, and on many places on the web, your visual identifier will follow you.

I haven’t been able to upload a pic in a couple years. So am trying here. I always assumed it was “just me.”

Matt – The wait was worth it. Don’t know if the coffee withdrawal or the Woody Boater withdrawal was more difficult. Video was really special.

Love the new site and the video was awesome. It must have taken some really high tech software to create the talking heads. Will they be a regular feature in the new WoodyBoater?

WOW!!! What a website. No wonder it took you 2 days to get it up. It has taken me all day to navigate it I will try a picture tomorrow. I’m one of these old guys who knows more about magnitos than megabytes.

Very cool! I love it all. One thing I do miss are the Previous and Next Article buttons at the bottom.

I do really love the clean look. But won’t advertisers want to show up on every page?
