A Very Rare 1942 Hydro Gets A New Life At Katz’s Marina.

If you have been to Lake Dora over the past four or five years, you have no doubt run across Miss Jane. Miss Jane is not only rare because she is a hydro, but also a Barral back, and in very original condition.

You would walk up to her and just drool. Man oh man how cool would it be to bring this baby back to life? Well. It’s being done at Katz’s Marina.

And then bam! just a couple days ago, Miss Jane shot a couple days ago. Dang!
That’s right, this years amazing restoration/preservation in in full gear for next years Lake Dora show in blistering speed and perfection. Just like years amazing twin restoration /preservation of Thayer IV and Mariah. This year it’s that magical little hydro. Here are some exclusive snap shots of work in progress at Katz’s. Enjoy.

She rightly gets suspicious when I’m simultaneously looking at a new boat, market value of mine and our bank balance. As far as the boat porn goes I wonder if they make mahogany colored lingerie with simulated deck striping?

I am glad to see this boat coming back, I had talked to Craig about it on occasion; rare, nice boat. And what a display it was at Dora with the vintage EZ Float trailer and old Ford 1 ton. I will be very excited to see it the Sunnyand show in months.
What was the original power in the boat? What engine is going in after the restoration? It seems like the boat deserves something special!
If thats hull number 13 I saw the boat 13 or 14 or so years ago when it came out of the barn it had been stored in in Kentucky. I didn’t have the money to buy it. Every piece of hardware on the boat was original even down to the small knobs on the light switches. The boat also had its original KB 121 engine and even had the original 2 blade race prop. It was also stored on a regular boat trailer and the hull had gotten a bad twist over the 30 years it sat on it. Trust me you don’t won’t to know what the guy who found it in the barn paid for it.
This particular boat is a 1942 16′ Chris-Craft Hydroplane, No. 13 (Hull Number 42513) of 19 built between 1941 & 1942.
According to the Essentail Guide, they were all originally delivered with Chris-Craft KB 6 cylinder engines and weighed in at 1,640 lbs.
I wish i could afford to take my Gar Wood to katz’s marine……
