And Here Come The Gasp’s

,

Jahn Allen and his 1928 Ditchburn take us out for a short ride on Gull Lake yesterday

This weekend was a magical weekend here, and apparently elsewhere as well.  WOW! And even more insane, John Allen was out in NORTHERN MINNESOTA on a boat ride?

File foto

Yes, BOAT RIDE. Not ice boating. But Boating. Like in a real boat. In the water. You may slightly recall there was a “thing” there this year. Trying to recall? mmmmm, Oh well, it’ll come to me. Anyway, here is John out on Gull Lake taking it all in.

Stay tuned, we have some cool…warm, nice gasps in the que. Lots of editing to be done. Bob Kays Drone footage and a new experiment in video from the Berlin Bureau. Still needs a new name.

Thank you John for a nice boat ride. Michigan is having similar weather, but I wimped out and winterized the boats couple weeks ago.

Its a risk up there in the Northern Country for sure. Hi risk, for high reward. Some of these days out on the water are the best of the year.

Wow, Art – January in Michigan! I thought we’d stretched the season, going out Thanksgiving weekend, when we lived in Chattanooga.

Fall boat rides are nice. I hope to get one in this year. If not I’ll watch this video again.

Thanks for the footage John! I had my last ride on Okoboji on Saturday before I put everything away for the season. I still hope to grab on of the Whalers for a Thanksgiving Day weekend run!
    Cheers!

Post Labor Day to mid October is usually the best boating of the year, here in northern KY. Had the 12′ Aristocraft out on a beautifully calm Ohio a few times recently. Photo from 3 days ago, leaving Turtle Creek, IN to cross the river back to KY.

My boat, Rabbit, is kept in a boathouse in NW Wisconsin. I winterized her three weeks ago. I missed two glorious weekends in a row of 80-degree temperatures. Since she’s in the boathouse, I could add a little heat and extend my season, but I get nervous. And to think that in a couple of months you’ll be talking about Dora. (Here’s Rabbit coming in for her long winter sleep. Please ignore that deck boat/pontoon thing at my dock… it’s a necessary evil.)

Just watched the local dock service company pick up the boat lifts from the water and dep0sit them on the hard so yep – we’re done for the year. Of course, the weather is PERFECT in northern lower Michigan right now. That being said it can change for the worst in a hurry around here. We have friends that are already buying their season skiing passes and prepping their equipment.

Nice ride around the north end of the west branch of Keuka yesterday in the ’55 Alumacraft model A. The kid in me still enjoys a small aluminum boat with an outboard-that’s what we grew up with. Something to be said for a boat you can pull up on shore and turn it over for the winter and a small motor that only requires changing the lower unit oil and putting oil in the cylinders for winterization. Ready to go when the ice goes out in the spring.
