Building Art At HQ? Need Help!

This is the building currently with a silver front. That will be red to simplify the look

So, I am still designing things and graphics for HQ, and looking for some inspiration. Oh I have ideas, but all of them seem a bit much, or not enough. Not sure. Kinda like a dog twirling before it plops down to go to sleep. Is there a right answer? No. It’s all subjective. So I thought. Hey throw it out there like the plywood peg board wall. You all really helped. So enjoy the ideas, and have at it. No idea is crazy.

Simple logo. The red part at the top of the large building

A clock, It’s VARNISH TIME!, ITS ALWAYS WOODY BOATER TIME, TIME TO GO BOATING. TIMELESS BOATING and have the clock stopped

Just the W

A statement

A bigger statement

VARNISHERS

SONS OF VARNISH

Its an endless question.. No Comment is too silly, smart, dumb, wait, okay ya.. Well.. Have fun

I am not very imaginative, so I will simply pick my favorite of your choices which is the simple LOGO.

The only trouble with this choice is that it does not really promote WB unless you know what it is.

Love the sons of varnish winged logo, with or without additional wording. Of course, my first mate says my taste is always too “old school”.

Appreciate both ‘simplify’ and ‘less is more’ – – Is each building required to ‘show’ or ‘say’ something?
Sure is a lot of red – –
    You’re very skilled, you’ll get there – – Enjoy the process – –

How about something that ties to the history of the Railway.
    “Woody Boater HQ & RR”
Is there any old advertising material or brochures used by the Railway that has distinctive fonts?

Forgot whats on the other (road) side of the big building, but thats where the text heavy messaging could be, probably a lot more uninformed traffic on the road that would benefit from a url……..for the waterfront view it’ll all be boaters (mostly local) and a simple , clean look would be nice. (with a subtle “WoodyBoater” under the logo. I remember you finding either a marina or gas sign at another marina locally you wanted to obtain… and old worn “Gulf Marine” sign, heck even some of those repops would look cool… but Im all about “patina”… RMR is looking too “neat and new” for me 🙂
And how is it lit at night? The night time waterview would be key for me… Im all about dimmable scene lighting and would look really cool from the water at night..
How sticky is Reedville about signage- zoning wise.. Maybe a small sign at the end of the dock,

And maybe some boat manufactureres signs ( or Matt painted repros ) CC, Lyman, Riva ,Whirlwind, etc… not too junky tho.. ,

But…….Wheres the Flag Pole with yard arms? Flags would allow you to tailor and change your message and mood…

First, I would say no “varnish” or “varnishers” references since the railway is also for painted wood, like 99% of the Pea.

My favorite is the logo with the big block letter WoodyBoater under it. Easy to read, simple message, and it directly addresses who you are.

The clock stuff is a little too clever and too cluttered IMHO. Just the logo or the SOV logo are too “insider” to communicate who you are.

I look at this as beautiful industrial art and you Matt, are an industrial artist! I like the clock idea as it allows passerby to see the time before sunset so they know how much fun they can have before heading to safe harbor. See you in Tavares!

Go old school for sure, but remember the front of f your building is like walking a trade show filled with 10’x10’ booths.
You have exactly three seconds to capture their attention. So, when you’re cruising by the Railway, make it simple, to the point and EZ to read. If not, you’re just another cute building on shore.
Agree that flagpoles and a yardarm are a necessity too.
Moods change and it’s easy to communicate with a flag.
We have ours lit at night via a solar light cap. Looks very cool from the water as you pass by after dark.

The clock, but for old school, add some neon. A beacon in the night for all the boaters coming by Reedville.

Like the first one as well as all the different length dock posts-makes them look more “Hodge Podge Lodge” looking.

Either just the logo or the logo with “Woody Boater” script under it. Simple, strong message.

If you must light it at night please only shielded, downward facing light to avoid glare on the water and reduce light pollution (love the stars at night).

I think it should be “Woody Boater” because it tells people what the place is about. It is what is seen from the water. Put the fun stuff somewhere else. just my opinion.

Fairly large logo but cut out of sign board and mounted proud of siding to create 3D then in smaller painted letters “woodyboater.com” at base of gable.

Gotta have one of those ol’neon kinky arrow signs somewhere.Kinky-straight-kinky-strait.(could have weiner instead)

Varnishers gives you a vintage-looking graphic that grabs your eye first, then gets explained by the arching overhead text label. It also gives you the kind of visual weight and proportion you need to set off the long, low architectural triangle formed by the gable, then gets bonus points for echoing the Reedville Railway sign seen at the same time on the gable of the other building. Don’t think you get that much from any of the other options.
