Woody Boats Showing up All Over TV

Along with the showing of a Woody Boat last night on the ABC Emmy Award winning show Modern Family, if you look around, our beloved Woody Boats are popping up all over the commercial world as well. Looks like Infiniti is taking full advantage of there boat they restored some time back. Below are some of the new ads, as well as some from over the past year. Thanks to fellow Woody boater Bob (have I got a calendar for you) Kays for sending us some of these clips. We know there are more out there. Michigan did one and did another SUV a ways back. Says a ton when big marketing companies use these classic boats to communicate passion, time, investment, and being an icon for boating. But then again, we all have known this.

Somehow, I can most relate to the Coors spot. I guess that is the demographic I belong in! Great ads. Thanks for sharing.

As an Advertising Art Director I know that I pick iconic images to comunicate something in a second. The mind can process in less time then that by the way. I have 30 seconds. So the fact that these are used to portray a quick image that actually means something is very cool and refreshing. maybe its that because of the web, these boats are more top of mind. I also note that the folks all using these boats are younger, and they represent more of a choice in owning something extraordinary, rather than some lame white plastic boat.

Damn damn damn! I’ve spent well over a hundred thousand dollars in restoration costs over the last two years. And NOW the Coors people tell me I could have done it all in a day, for beer money.

The only thing good about these ads is the boats. What a laughable load of cheese. I cant believe its possible to make such howlers. Matt I think its time we started an Agency at… hmmmm let me see, Table Rock! and showed them how to do really good work.

If only we knew someone in the field……….Someone who could sell lets say… orange shirts to a bunch of conservative guys, and make them feel cool when people stare at them in the grocery store. That would be the guy to associate with.

Matt, your first comment hit it right on the head! The fact that it’s a younger demographic being targeted, and its classic being worked on, and not something plastic, is the best part of that add!

Whether they’re selling beer, cars or Connecticut, these ads are giving our hobby more exposure every 30 seconds than all the boat shows in an entire season.
It doesn’t hurt at all that 10 or 20 million guys — yes, younger guys than most of us — are seeing a spot and saying, “God, what a cool boat…I’d like to see one of those in real life sometime.” The next June, they see a poster for a local ACBS show, and they remember…

Rich, you are dead on! That was the power of the film on golden pond. It increased membership and subscribers to all the enities related to the hobby. The product is amazing, the awarness low.
