Still Cleaning Up At HQ, It’s About Time After 4 Years

,

Each tool, detail was removed and cleaned up

The Boatress is having a party at HQ in a couple weeks, and I have been trying to get the place cleaned up for it. And yes, I have cleaned up before, usually on Sundays in the summer, this one required a very deep clean. Not just a leaf blower like I did a could weeks ago. The dust had been piling up on everything. Maybe it was the B restoration. YIKES.

Each wrench had a thick layer of dust.

All the hats had a thin layer of dust

These lights gather dust, I started here, so the dust would drop

The Hydro looked grey.

Each planer removed and cleaned

I used Pine Oil and a rag. Pine oil  not pinesol….is great for the wood after cleaning

It also brings out some of the wood in all the benches

All these layers that create a visual festival are part of the clean up issue. But well worth it

But the dust just keeps coming from all the pollen. I use this as a canary in a coal mine for the pollen. Image from earlier this week

The goal is to be clean but look dirty

One mans trash is another mans paradise

I know for many this is crazy, And yes, I agree. A clean work space, void of the texture that collects stuff is a smarter move for sure.  But thats not what I set out to do. I wanted the entire space to be art. Like living in a painting. Freezing the the time of how it is. A living work of art. A performance art of sorts. And in a way a more true reflection of me. “Controlled Clutter” Seems coo coo coco puffs,  but there is focus here. When we started this about 4-5 years ago, my fear is it got too clean, too un cluttered. Clutter is part of the richness of time. Dust, not so much, but like a barn find of a barn. The hard part of all this is not allowing the modern slick work to creep in detected. Or other passions, cars, and other stuff. There is a focus here. And is one of the most fun things I have done ever.

Ahhhhhhh!

That’s a whole lot of cleaning but it looks almost too good for a workshop.

I’m working on getting all the hardware back on Water Lily so I can splash her soon!

OCD is rampant and you are definitely a carrier :). I think I would have a cot and a coffee pot and would never leave.

Thanks Matt, I believe that you have helped me put into words a lifestyle which has subconsciously been my mantra forever: “The goal is to be clean but look dirty”.

Ever thought about hanging some drop cloths on the walls before starting a project like B was? I have never really considered dusting my shop, but I do run the leaf blower through it occasionally. But then again, my wife has NEVER considered throwing a party in my shop…

      Looking great, Matt!

One of my favorite things to do when you post photos of the Railway is look around for new things displayed. I’m all for, if you have an open space, put something cool in it. The fact that the Boattress wants to have the party there means It’s Cool.
I was thinking a good description of Woodyboaters is, we look clean but we can be dirty.

One man’s treasure…who knows how many bodies have been strapped to your coffee tables! It’s something to ponder. The place looks inviting!
