Fireworks At Global HQ

From HQ

This year our July 4th fireworks happened on Saturday night. The fireworks here in Reedville are a big deal around our area. Many come by boat and lots of folks come from all over and create a traffic situation. Not to mention there is a parade through town on Main St. And of course Global HQ is right there. And I have to, because of insurance, not allow folks to park or come on the property. It’s not my favorite thing, since the entire idea of the space is to be a welcome place for folks to enjoy the spirit of Vintage boating. But, all I need is some kid to get hurt. And well. Anyway, here are some updated images of the Railway and how its all coming together.

Get off my lawn.. ugh!

Cleaned up

I moved some stuff around.

Art donated some Art to the HQ.

I put up an old sign that Steve Stevenson gave us years ago. Its like a little outboard display

Arts Johnson now on permeant display at Global HQ

Texture over texture

Sunset at Global HQ

We went by boat to avoid the traffic jam on Main St

Timeless night time at HQ

Looks like you had a great evening. Glad Art provided a little bit of Algonac for Reedville. Why is the dingy hanging in the building and not on Sweet Pea?

Beautiful photos, Matt. While the railway looks great in day photos, it appears absolutely magical in night shots!

My all time favorite place for viewing fireworks is from the porch at my dad’s house. His place overlooks the Ohio River & Simon Kenton bridge. Since it is technically in the flood plain, the living quarters & porch are elevated to 2nd floor level., so we’re above the crowds. It’s screened in, so no need to coat ourselves in bug spray. Comfy furniture, means we don’t have to lug camp chairs. Private parking in his driveway & usually a great meal, as his wife is an excellent cook. Only downside is the 2 hours drive each way, so it kinda late getting home.

Not Steve Lapkin quality, but I like this one I shot from dad’s side porch.

From dad’s side porch, as the crowds gathered on the river bank awaiting dusk.

Remembering July 4 fireworks on the farm as a kid. I’d climb up to the roof of the barn. From there I had a 360 degree view of several nearby communities’ fireworks. Sadly the farm and barn are gone.

Well I’m a little late to the party, but Happy 4th to you all.

The engine looks like it cleaned up nicely, but you destroyed all the patina by cutting off the sn*w scraper brushes……..lol. 🙂

    Happy 4th!

Knowing you it must eat you up that you can’t just let people park there and walk around the railway. Our latigos society has made it hard on the good will or caring people.

The next town over, Wiscasset, does a 4th of July parade that shuts down US Rt. 1 for an hour or more every year at 10AM. If you have even been on the Coast of Maine in mid summer driving Rt. 1 you know this is a BIG deal.

Gotta bring in the girls for a little MERICA spirit!
