Getting Ready For A Little Bleach, And Tomorrow’s Party

,

No worries, bleach will not be in the punch bowl…. Bungs in, check, all wood stripped, sanded with 100 grit, and I think. Ready. There will be some hardware removed, and then Bleach. A two part bleach so this will be interesting. WHY? To blend the wood better. Lots or different shades of red and darkness. So this will clean that up.

Letting the sunshine in to warm up the place

Hatches are stripped and ready

See the different tones. This way I wont have to cake on the stain and let the wood grain show its magic

Lots of little details to get done. Dang this stuff eats up the ole clock

One thing that ate up time was removing the 5200 in the seams. UGH

All good

Her lines are so sweet. I love this color and very cool like this

COME ON BY TOMORROW FOR THE 18TH ANNUAL VIRTUAL HOLIDAY PARTY! WOOHOOOO

    B is looking GREAT!

I don’t know why anyone would use 5200 in the seams. MMM 4000 maybe, it is much more pliable.

I hope you give us a full account of the bleaching process. I have not done it or seen it done and am very curious about the process.

The 5200 caulking may have been done many years ago when it was a new product and we didn’t know just how good it actually stuck and word was slow getting around about not using it for that. Black Witch’s decks are bedded in it. I may have used a different brand for the deck seams

Great, amazing, enviable progress on that boat! Like Troy I will be interested in the bleaching process…never done it. If I don’t make the party it is because I am GOING BOATING…if the wind dies and the temp remains. Merry Christmas to all. John in VA.

When bleaching, try using sponges, wring it out and wipe in one direction. I found it’s more controllable. Just be patient and let it dry before repeating, so you know what the results are.

Zinsser two-part wood bleach is my go-to. Curious to see what effect the application of mineral spirits to the bare wood prior to bleaching will have…?? Sand to 80-grit prior to bleaching, when satisfied with results before the filler stain, apply Min-Wax Pre-Stain according to directions. Old wood is thirsty. Burlap cloth is wonderful with filler stain, good luck.

It’s a great project you can wrap your arms around. Did some work on the 26’ Sea Skiff but we’re in the throws of moving the 8 month old twins closer to a home with shop for son and myself moving 5 car/truck projects and multiple project boats stored while selling 2 homes with a third sold to roll into a 3 bay 40’ deep 3 car garage with lift, who cares about the house. Now fighting my son for a project bay if deal closes.

That f’n 5200! I spent most of the day just on the deck. F Me! And just applied the bleach. Will know more in the AM. I cleaned it with another prodect, not mineral spirits. Like a ethyl alcahol thing. Also messed up the A nd B part. Seriously? Used B first on the sides. Will see what that does. I had 1 job. A then B.. And messed it up. I hate chemicals. HATE HATE HATE.

Breathing chemicals as well as absorption thru the skin can affect your health not to mention f up your project if you don’t use it per instructions in the right temps, humidity, and application method. Looks good tho.
