Going Bold Into Dora, And Summer.

Starting the checkered flag design

Well, there are two ways to go in design when you are trying to cover up some oddities. And as you may recall Whoops was encased in fiberglass, deck and all, and the wood underneath was not, lets say attractive. It was washed out and was kinda unsaleable. SO? Do you just drive it and have fun, YES, and try and figure out a way to add a cool factor. SKI boats are purpose designed. No real other use, and thats all part of the charm. So, with all that in mind, and no real chance to go back to original, Wayne and I floored it. I mean get out on the salt flats and floor it, floor it style. Layers of design elements to embrace her special things, a black and white interior. Huge engine box, and all around vibe.

2 coats of white in the center. No chance of getting back to the blonde wood. Note, see the stripes, they were white, thats the amount of tint we used in the varnish over the glass. 5 coats, the last two were no stain.

Checkered flag on, now the seams, which are not seams

We did the seams in a satin black so there would be a texture change

Now the boat style all works together. Yes its a lot. But now it is one.

We changed the design on the engine box, so its less centered. I am still working on it to maybe adjust the flying squares? And the rear deck need finishing

And in the end, if its too much, or not enough. Oh Well. WHOOPS!

Looking good! It all does work together. I kinda had my doubts, but I am no artist! Nice work!

    Looks Great!
Although my engineer brain has a little trouble with the falling squares….I’ll get over it. HaHa

Off the subject but, I am enquiring about Greg at Indian Lake. I heard there was a bad storm there last night. The storm caused a lot of damage at Russels Point. Possible loss of lives.

Thanks, Mark, for asking. Truly a devastating event and historical first and worst for Indian Lake. Family and friends so far survived in good shape (physically) but sadly my Brother-in-law suffered substantial damage to his storage building housing some rather precious marine and automotive artifacts including a 1942 23 Barrel. Have not received a full report yet as he is very “occupied”.
What reports I have received describe “Apocalyptic” conditions in the path of the twister. Many historic structures/businesses/landmarks are obliterated. This ,of course, pales in comparison to the human misery. Loss of life has been reported but no numbers so far. Many injuries.

On a lighter, upbeat note…As Jimmy sang “weather is here, wish you were beautiful” 🙂

I’m glad all your family. and friends are ok Greg. They have been talking on the news of how bad it was. It is pure sadness. Sorry for the loss of all your brother in laws neat things. But at least he is safe. As Jimmy also said “Bubbles Up”

I assume that the building Whoops is in belongs to Wayne. Does everyone in Reedville have the kind of workshop/storage buildings that you, Wayne and Jimmy have? Very impressive!

You should convert or add a couple of squares that look like dice. Always happy to create more work for people. That boat will be a lot of fun on Dora and Lake Harris until the wind blows up a big chop. Those Ski Boats ride hard in a heavy sea but they handle great with that “trip chine”. I’ve replaced the plank between the chines and it was a lot of hand planing with bevels on both sides and a plank taper at both ends. 5200 is your friend on that job.

Love this boat – Whoops just looks like so much fun!

    Greg @ Indian Lake,
Sorry to hear about the storms. Wish all speedy clean up & rebuilding.
