Happy Thanksgiving – Stuffing Box’s, Just Try And Stay Awake!

, ,

mmm that is one fine stuffing box.. mmm

In honor of this perfect day. We bring you.. OK, Mike Mayer brings us all .. His collection of Stuffing Boxes. None of us really want to know why Mike collects Stuffing Box images. But in a strange way we all understand. There are times, when a good snap shot tell the entire story. Such is one of the goofy things about this passion.. Photo’s of screw holes and small nail.. Folks like Mike are we are Thankful for at Woody Boater. I can not count anymore how many times an image or tid bit has come out of no place to save the day. Like last night I laughed that we should do a story on Stuffing boxes, and poof.. these showed up. I used to name each and every person that helped.. Texx, Mike, Alex, Paul and Karen, Dennis, Lou, Joel, Seth, Bob, Alan, Bob, John, Kim, Chad, Brian, Chris, Carla, Al S, Randy,Don, Bill, Jim, Rabbit, Terry, River Rat, Woody Gal, Larry, Jimmy, Jim ..drot, John Rothert, Clif, Al, Don V, Mfine, Mark, Bob, Dick, Scott, Herb, Dave, Don , Dan, David, Marty, Peter, Jim, Alan, Hamster, Molly, Rick, who is always first in the AM, All of Lake Hopatcong, Tahoe, Lake Dora, Travis, Phil, George, The Olsons, and the Smith Mountain Lake Gang, Don D, All of Michigan as a matter of fact, Some of NY, all of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and spots in Canada.. New Zealand.. PHIL!, Australia, Sweden, Finland, Germany, David Hassiloff rules! egh! The list goes on and on.. And I always forget someone and want to jab a stick in my eye when I do, because it does not mean that I forgot, just that I have a memory of a teenager that’s supposed to remember his chores. I am deeply honored that you all contribute and make this fun, this year especially. There have been so many twists and turns that have make a crappy economic year, a blast. Thanks.. Now you may stuff yourself!

Ya can taste the 5200 in this one.. with a touch of saw dust?

mmmm, no this one, this is the one.. Amazing.. Look at the way those bolts just scream, hold me tight!

Who says a stuffing box does not look good in grey? Not me! This shot with the wrench shows all the drama that takes place with stuffing boxes.. Almost porn... Like, hey, you hold water or I am going to screw you down harder. Wow, thats rough. Mike, ya could have just left that wrench out of the shot for such a religious day..

Tasteless dirty, porn! In a stuffing box in a old dirty boat sort of way, ya have to open up your mind.. Then close it and pray no one finds out..

This shot says, Strong Bond, a marrage of shaft, engine and water. Note the symetry of the clamps.. Fine art I tells ya, Fine freiken art!

OK, this is sick, just the part, no art, no back story, just like showing a cut off leg.. Sick stuff.. But I cant stop looking..

This one is wonderful, kinda like a voyer shot, just a peek around the transome support.. It's there but does not know we are.. Ohhhh! Look at those fresh clean bolts

OK, Lets just say that this one is waiting for something, maybe a nice young fresh turned shaft?

Sorry, I have no idea how a stuffing box story on Thanksgiving turned into a bad peep show.. It was getting a tad boring.. Maybe it was the trictafan? How ever you spell that dam word? I wish you all a fantastic Thanksgiving. Matt, Texx, Mike…

Happy thanksgiving to you, too, matt. I think we would be remiss, however, if we forget to retroactively wish texx and all our other Canadian friends happy thanksgiving for their celebration last month. We wouldn’t want to be accused of being ugly Americans, would we?

Thank You Mike for sharing your Stuffing Box Photo Album with us today. Wow! What a rare collection of photos at your fingertips. Totally mind boggling to say the least.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all Woody Boaters World Wide. And thanks to President Abe Lincoln for proclaiming this day back on Oct 3, 1863 “…to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”

Wow, Matt, your imagination knows no bounds…..what a stretch this story was…..
I am counting my blessing today as I hope all of you will do. I am truely blessed….in that I have four classic boats not five….
The boat buzz unplugged crew will soon be STUFFING at the Crab Shack.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Brian, what you do…did… with your stuffing box in the privacy of your boat house is up to you. None of you will ever look at a stuffing box the same now..

I still say a stuffing box is no good and can’t do it’s thing without a little privacy… Go get a plank and cover it up for goodness sake!

After these comments it’s going to seem so disrespectful to raise the hatch to see if the stuffing box is dripping while under way. We’ll need to add a little planket down there.

It is the slightly warped creativity, quick wit & ready humor of everyone on this site that make me thankful. Happy Holidays Woody boaters!

OK. They have disconected me from my IV of turkey with all the trimmings. The family has dipersed and I can sneak off to look at more boat porn. It is the little things that I am thankful for every day. Including Woody Boater.
Mike thankyou for being an excellant archivist for the inboard crowd. I only know the long and the short shaft of it. In the land of a thousand islands and countless shoals, depending on where they set the water level, it is nice to be able to pull the old prop out of the water. Texx thanks for all the great stories. Obviously. Thankyou to our Bow Light, our Captian, the
woody Boater extordinaire Matt. Have a great holiday and don’t varnish and drive!

Enough! I am restoring a 56 21 Capri and the previous owners back in 1967, the last year the boat was used, did all sorts of strange things, like run aground or something, add fir to support the strut, used steel carriage bolts and added all sorts of brass sheet. I had no clue until this photo essay of the highest scholary achievement came along of what should be happening back down there.
My hat is off to Mike Mayer.
