Howard Hughs Dingy Get’s A New Life

After cleaning I put a strap around here and squeezed her back together with some simple new screws.

Well, I thought the little tender could get restored. After a good cleaning, yikes, good god, its a bit swiss cheesy, and I could spend a year on it and have another boat I never use. Or want to to be bluntly honest. SO?

Hung it up upside down. The texture and design of her bilge is insane beautiful

Added some of those party lights. BAM, Party ready

I think I have a name for her now. But always open to new ones. I am gonna paint it on there this morning for the party

I am either gonna have the food table here or move SLIM and the cooler and bar.

Certainly gives the space a vibe

Ready to party

I can lover it now and move it to a shed outside, or another area. I use those lifts

NAME?

One idea.

Kinda fun

Variation on theme.

I think this will go where the hydro is now, that table is used as a bar. The Hydro, since its so slim, may get put on a wall? Still working it all out here at the gallery of boat art.

    That looks awesome.
Name it for the yacht it came from? Put a framed old photo of the yacht it sat on, on the table?
What if you did the lettering with a water reflection look so it can be read upside down or right side up?
The rope lighting effect in the Thompson also looks very cool.

It’s always heartbreaking to see the work of craftsmen end up as landfill. This is a wonderful way to let it live on. My thoughts for a name would be “Baby Huey”

I still think you should restore it and use it. But it looks good where it is at. At least it is inside, and people get to see it.

Not so sure that yours is a tender from Hughes Aircraft. Their boats were made from cold molded plywood hulls. There was a photo of one sometime in the last year or so at a show I think, maybe somewhere along the East Coast? Here is an image or two from the original brochure. This doesn’t diminish from the story, it looks great and is living out its history in great company.
