Insane Time Warp Capsule 1949 Century For Sale On Craigslist. Roll Over Story
This was reported yesterday and today we are going to roll it over to todays lead story. A time capsule story on a time capsule, and this is about as time capsule as it gets. If you are a Century lover, and who isnt? This is a jaw dropper. I mean, WHAT THE? How does something like this sit for that long? Now, because its craigslist, it can possibly get wonky as to being there soon and then poof no trace. So here is the listing complete.
This is a 1949 Century 18 foot Resorter. Boat was only used one summer in 49.
Boat has been in storage since new. It has 48.2 total hours on it. Interior is like new as is everything else. This is a true time piece, Americana at its Best. Boat runs and is ready for the water or could be put in a collection like it has been for the last 35 years. Comes with cradle and trailer. boat is all mahogany construction. Located in Indian River Michigan.
YOU CAN CLICK HERE TO SEE THE LISTING! Oh, and its $27,500.. Gotta say.. It’s worth every penny. If you own a museum, or collection….. railway.. garage, basement, extra bathroom with a bathtub! A HUGE THANKS TO fellow Woody Boater Robert Murdock for the tip
hunh, what?…wait… we get TWO separate stories today or am I in a time warp?….. you go from milking stories to two in a day? Hunh ? I did take a nap this afternoon and went back to the FJ story then saw this. But very cool….
Sorry, I like to change it up. This was a kinda breaking news thing. With Craigslist wasnt sure it would be live by tomorrow. Although its a steep price, and for gods sake you could never use the boat. Its a real beauty
no apologies …we get a bonus story today! Tho what Ive seen is that people read WB first thing in the morning, make their comments but then probably dont return again during the day. Since I enjoy the comments (and jpegs)… I might pop back in later in the day or evening… Im sure you have all the analytics tools that track all the visits by IP ,etc….
I wonder how many “regulars” will miss the post..
And yes the disappearing Craigslist thing has gotten me in the past….”Hey wheres that ad I saw for the 66Chevy pickup for $500 I saw this morning” And you are right , its a cool boat, but one wouldnt want to actually use it.. Now if Id bought that Bitcoin back in 2011, Id be sucking up all the cool boats! I mean what can you buy for $27k these days..
I’m with you Frank. I check back several times a day. Sometimes I don’t comment until later on. I like to see where the comments (or pictures) are going! Cool boat, You can always restore one. But you can’t remake them original.
wow, time capsule…..got the updraft carbs right next to the starter…..turn key GO BOOM….aside from that….wow!
also: looks like Model A parts handing on the wall???

Will the governor allow you to buy the boat during Wuhan?
Wrong. Buy it. Use the hell out of it. Make memories. Hope that your kids want it…to cherish, use, and then pass to their kids. Restore is ten times. Keep craftsmen employed. Make millions of memories….generation after generation etc.
Buying something to then put it away to sit and rot is just stupid. Yeah, yeah, its your God given right to buy what you want and do what you want with those things…but it is still asinine and plain stupid.
You old guys bitch and complain that there are no young people in the hobby. Well, here ya go. Buy this for someone who perhaps cannot, and then allow that family to make memories. And then hope to God that those kids want to either keep this or buy ten boats like a Paul H. Done. Hobby continued.
This so called time capsule will do jack squat at getting more people into the arena.
So let me have it. Yell and scream and call me everything in the book. I frankly dont care. Still doesn’t change the simple fact that hiding a boat does nothing for anyone.
Right on the money.
Meet Grace – memory maker – gets the hell run out of her every season in northern Mn – skiing tubing cocktailing with 3 generations at the helm – had a few mishaps over the years but nothing the shop can’t remedy so she trudges on-
just alittle more TLC this visit –
The Rub Rail is VERY cool
We get a LOT of time capsules like this up north because as I said to Matt, three months of bad ice is summer around these parts!!!!
I’m sure many other resort communities are like this too.
My friend Dan Kimball spied this for me and sent it over. I’m guessing this is real and anyone who wants or desires originality should jump on it.
Just too cool to know that finds like this are still out there, so keep looking!!!!!
And Matt, it’s Bob!!! I only got called ROBERT by my grandmother when I was in deep $#*T for something I did!!!
Quite often as I recall………..!
OK, OK I admit it. I missed this yesterday. I did check back several times, but left the other story up and simply refreshed. Never when to HOME to see that a new story came in.
Great find! Buy it and use it!!
I am more curious about the Boat Buzz feed. Where did that go? Are Mom and Dad having an argument? Did the doggy drama get to be too much? I just wish that everyone in this hobby would get along!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I have been missing the boat buzz too. What’s up?
I am willing to participate in another chain gang if you need it delivered from Michigan. Just say the word.
It’s a really beautiful boat for someone.
The ground wire to the engine block is red, and that’s factory original from 1949?
Might be Positive ground? love the century logo in the rail and I am not sure if that exahust manifold is orginal.
Very cool find. I’d love to own this.
ditto on what’s up with the BUZZ?

A 1950 Century Resorter is the first wood boat that I had a ride in when I was about 8 years old. The wood boat bug bit me then as I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Same color interior too.
Stay tuned on the Boat Buzz news
Matt: I looked at that 49 century around 7 years ago. It was the real deal as far as I could determine then. I can’t remember the whole story but the original owner passed away young and the family never used it after that. As I remember the floor was soft and the wiring was in the condition you would expect. It had not been run in years. It was under a tarp in an old barn. Sure would be fun to get her up and running and show her. My guess is it would be an adventure to soak and the 6 volt system would be an issue. Hope someone gets this one, it’s a show stopper!
WOW, a Chrysler Crown with copper jacket exhaust. Love that gauge panel too. I thought Century selected Gray engines exclusively.
Century actually used both Gray and Chrysler engines.
It looks like a Gray 4 cylinder but I may be wrong, Sure is cool.
My “right on”comment was in reply to Briants comments,I couldn’t agree more with him.If boat is as good as it looks to be then I think price is reasonable.Somebody paid 50g’s for a template boat a week ago, just because it was “rare”.This Century is as original as it gets, story can’t be beat,is showable right out of the barn, and most important, USABLE! Albeit with the right preparation and caution at first.I’d love to own it.
possibly the only know Century with a good original bottom
Have studied SeaMaids for quite some time. Have never seen a 49 without a dark stained Kingplank that matches the width of the upholstery down the middle.
Maybe this is a custom deck?
