Into The Winter Light.

,

Oh hell ya!

A huge shout out to fellow Woody Boater Todd Weitekamp for reminding us all, it aint over til the fat lady sings the winter blues. Chalk one up for owning an outboard over an inboard. Spontaneous weather surfing.

There is something about the winter light!

So what do you do to avoid the shopping BS….boating of course. Decided to call dad and pull the 1954 Penn Yan out of the wood shop for a spin. It was 46 degrees here in Illinois but the sun was out so that made it nice. Like I ever need a reason to go WoodyBoating, but this was a legitimate trip. I bought a 4 blade prop for the little Merc and wanted to see if it was worth it. Super quick and fun to say the least. Nothing better than to share a moment with you dad in a family heirloom.

Family warmth always wins

September photo at her launch – what a wonderful boat. I have always LOVED the lines on older Penn Yan’s.

Maiden Voyage! September

Great that you can take advantage of the weather. Can’t be many late November days in Illinois that this is even possible.

What cool article. When I saw the first picture I thought Thats a Penn Yan! You know I love Penn Yans. Its good to see Todd out enjoying the weather and the neat boat.

We used to hold our first DN ice boat races this week end in the 80’s. Now I’m still sanding the decks of my new boat. Enjoy it while you still can.

Like many, I wish I still had my beautiful 12 ft Penn Yan Swift. In the early sixties as a teenager I had refinished the Swift and with the Mark 25 Merc ran up and down the Hudson from West Point to Manhattan. Often pulling on or even two skiers. No life jackets, just a few cushions and no fear.

The last 3 days have been spectacular here in north Ga with temps going up to 70’s. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, if I had a boat ready. But tomorrow down to 27, but that’s not typical. Great time to spend with your dad, Todd. Good for you but you’ve got to move that ensign to the stern pole and fly a Penn Yan burgee. Just sayin’.
