Just Another Day In Paradise.

Hotel room in SOHO. One night, up and back.
There is an old saying, if you ever want to get something done, get someone who is busy. Well, it is true, but good lord, this is nutso. Over the past few months, okay all summer long, it’s been back to back meetings, photo shoots, TV shoots, all of it.

Photo studio in NYC, Many a rock star and movie star and model have been photographed here. And now me. How the mighty have fallen. I can not say anything about it. But its cool, and not boat related.

Keith greeted me at the door

I would have driven to NYC for this alone.
And separately, my company helped launch the new Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center , one of only 13 free standing Cancer hospitals in the country. Here is a new TV spot we did at the start of the summer. The shoot is about a month long process, which is just the production. The concepting and approval process is far longer. This was shot the day before it opened. Talk about squeezing it all in.
And in between zooms, some attempt at working on things around the house that I can do in 30 minute bursts. All mixed in with the occasional sunset ride. Like about 4 times. Stinky is rotting on the lift. WECATHEM is wondering if we are ever gonna go for a ride, and time is marching on.

Back at home, building a fence in 30 minute bursts. It’s taken a while. I use IKE as a wheel barrow.

BUBBA, gets the lumber and its all very timeless to make the minutes slow down

The cooler temps make it a very peaceful break
I have spoken to many of you, and I am not alone, this summer has zipped by so fast, that one must imagine that there is some sort of universal time warp going on.

And the sunsets are insane. Kelsey captured this on a Kayak ride.
Gotta go and get ready for a 9AM meeting. WTH? I am going to loose my phone and cut the internet this weekend. AND GO BOAT RIDING. I think.
My friend, you are very creative and talented but maybe you should back off on the throttle a little. Life is too short, as I was reminded while attending the funeral of a good friend yesterday. He died unexpectedly from a freak fall.
There is this phase of life called retirement from one’s day job. It is usually a rewarding life change. Just something to think about and thanks again for the daily morning read!
In a very VERY strange way. Being busy calms me.
My grandmother once told me a very long time ago when I was thirteen and antsy as all heck about getting old enough to get my driver’s permit.
She told me to calm down and all of a sudden, her words recently came back to me in total clarity:
“Young man, when you are young, the days seem to pass very slowly, but when you grow old, the years will pass too very quickly”.
My God, I’m there.
That’s hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
I had an old shipwright stop by my shop a while back holding a tape measure, he ask me how long do you think you would like to live? I said 82. he wheeled out the tape on the floor and said to me (at 62 yrs old). That all you got left, so get enjoying every day
HA! I have sid at the agency many times. I went from being too young for the business to too old in about one day. It happened like that. I am a dinosaur, I know it, and love learning, and trying new things. And then, take a nap. And a Jello Pudding cup. And then back to learning Ai, and website building, and then a nap. Jello cup, Pee, nap, and so it goes until 8pm, when I go to bed. and watch the either the history channel or serial killer documentaries.
A good buddy of mine from China named Confucius once told me: Life is like a roll of toilet paper: the closer you get to the end, the quicker it goes.
Confucius also says: “Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day.”
Matt I know we have talked about it and I understand why you are delaying retirement, but I have to agree with Greg and say this retirement thing is GREAT!
Sometimes running a business is like trying to coach a room full of monkeys how to dribble a football. You somehow get used to it UNTIL your own oil pressure light goes on.
one screw at a time…
Add the word Loose in there and its so true
I hope that cancer center is a success. As a recovering (hopefully) cancer patient being under that huge linear accelerator machine for 35 treatments and watching nurses suit up in hazmat outfits just before infusing me with an IV line of cisplatin 7 different times you wonder how many people don’t have cancer. I’m absolutely astounded at how many people I’ve met and are being treated. Thankfully, this technology exists but it really taxes the bodies ability to recover after basically being poisoned over time. My hearts out to all those who have recovered.
