More Family Fun From The Film Yesterday
If you came in late yesterday here on WoodyBoater some interesting info started coming in from Michigan. Yesterdays story on the cool music video by Brian Rise from his Garage find film canister stated some family digging. So, here is where we are at.
Definitely Michigan, near Algonac on the “flats”
We also have names. Thanks to Knot That Jeff Gordon, who posted this pic of the can.
May 1939, so before the war. There does seem to be some family names that might be a connection to folks in the Michigan area. Which of course would cause my head to explode, because this RIGHT HERE, is what WoodyBoater is all about. Connecting us all in a fun way.
So if you want to relive the video, here it is again, and then go back to yesterdays story and read the comments. I LOVE THIS STUFF! Thanks again to Brian Rise for the great music and images
It was fun to watch the story I found yesterday! I can’t wait to see what today brings!
Missed it yesterday and am hustling watching now. Beautiful film and music. Ask you model daughter in law, Matt: You could restage that entire film with the same clothes and it could be a Ralph Lauren ad today.
Several years ago we had a former menswear designer for Ralph Lauren designing some blankets and scarves for us at the Faribault Woolen Mill. He said the menswear designers there used to play a game with Ralph: Whoever could find a photo of the Duke of Edinburgh (he who abdicated the thrown for Wallace Simpson) that Ralph hadn’t seen would earn a round of drinks. Because whatever he wore, Ralph would recreate it for his own line.
Like I said yesterday, great video/movie! I just hope someone can identify some of the people in this movie. I think that the guy is drinking a Budweiser .
The film reel says. “Kipke Boat Landing”. There is one gentleman in the video, that seems the be the one tying off the boat and securing it at dock in several clips. He looks an awful lot like Harry Kipke – Hall of Fame Michigan athlete/coach. Fits the time frame.

Dang! Sure does
Amazing stuff!!!!
This is why I keep hanging around this crazy experiment called WoodyBoater.
Me too! This mag was found in an “uncle’s” attic, not my uncle! These were in a “Sunbather’s Club” magazine so was available on some newsstands in the 50’s-60’s. I would guess behind the counter. Matt, is this a documented first use of the “airbrush technique”? Can we milk this? 🙂
No that’s just Fla.
Can anybody recognize the boat?
There’s a boat in that picture?
Just checking back…guess the story took at slight turn, while I was gone.
Is that a 1937 40’ Chris Craft. A friend in the 1980’s had one on Lake Saint Clair. She was named After ‘Ours if I remember right. Often wondered what became of that boat. Maybe this one is their boat when it was new.
