One Thing For Sure, Old Milk Stinks!

,

It was an all day job, BUT, what an evening.

A huge thanks to all who helped in this process. You can see the inner thinking of the creative process. It’s nerve racking, and since for over 40 years I have relied on client feedback, it’s almost impossible for me to be on my own.  The original Skunk idea from Tim Robinson was a creative master stroke. It was a way to have something on the transom as a punctuation of all the Stinky lettering.

Had some new neighbors parked outside!

Then of course there was the fact that I had already committed to actually doing the lettering.  I had an art teacher in collage that would make us throw away the weeks drawings we did to prove that its all just art and we can make more. So away it went yesterday.

Well that was on there good!

Yesterdays Comp, too angry

Then Sneaky happy

The Skunk I had was too angry, so I warmed him up, and was ready to go by lunch.

Then Brocks goggle idea, LOVED it, but with goggles on it looked like he was blind. And then at lunch after I was all set, Wayne Bomb suggests the Red Helmet with the 24 on it. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Thats it. F ME.

Stinkys Helmet

I had to start again with the drawing. BUT it was worth it, and now the Skunk is more connected to the boat, and the helmet is now part of it all. And makes the Skunk the driver, which ties it back to the Lester Collins story!

Can I go boating now?

So, NOW, I can emotionally move on, and varnish over and over it and give it some age. Ya know, I think I recall seeing a Skunk faintly when I stripped the transom…mmmmmmm

Good ..for now

Mr B is also OVER IT!

It’s now represents a bigger story and tribute thus having even more meaning. Very cool.

Looks good Matt. That should turn some heads at a boat show. Speaking of boat shows , I got my pamphlet to register for the Hessel boat show this year. August 11, 2024. Would love to see a lot of the Michigan gang there.

The helmet is a little over the top ( my opinion) too much, takes away from the character.
    Sorry!

I actually like the distressed “Stinky” lettering. Opinions are like a$$ holes, everyone’s got one.

Fantastic design Matt. The link to the old helmet works great. Stinky is a well curated little racer now!
Reading your words about ‘client feedback’ made me shiver. We used to get horrendous rounds of ‘feedback’ from clients on our work. It was usually unhelpful, frustrating and ill thought out. When I got out of the multi national agencies and set up our own shop we insisted on a change of language around such things. We politely began asking our clients for their notes rather than feedback and it improved the process totally. Now when a client offers their notes on a project it’s most usually more respectful, not mandatory and more constructive. I first heard the term in the film industry and was taken by how respectful it was. So those are my notes.😀
