Photo’s From Hell

I have seen hell, and it’s hot, sticky and has barnacles. The Jabba The Hut Look
How are you gonna spend your 4th of July weekend? Boating? Fun? Or? For some reason this year, every boat is undergoing some issue. Yes, even Stinky is sick with a bad generator and voltage regulator, WECATHEM is still being done up at Katzs, and well. The new Plassic Boat still to be named is being scraped and whatever it needs. Sweet Pea is doing well, but its just the Boatress and I, so maybe she will come through. But in the mean time I grabbed some snap shots from Hell. Here ya go.

Every nook and cranny is covered.

Its endless. 21 feet of hundreds of embedded little suckers glued into the fiberglass

It is actually quite beautiful as a painting. But I do feel like a dental hygienist scraping away

She is cleaning up nice otherwise

The OG Dave Matthews checking out the Johnson 150 Ocean Pro. Started up great, shot lower unit, he has several of these engines and we are going to cobble together a good engine instead of a NEW 4 stroke for now. I am looking at a 4 Stroke 200hp, but good god, they want $18K for that. As the Boatress said, I dont mind breaking down. Okay then. Frankenstein Engine it is.
“I don’t mind breaking down.”
Did you get that in writing?
Put that on a coffee mug.
How the hell do you get that crap off the bottom?
Soda blast.

Doug has the right plan!!
Glad I’m a fresh water boater!
I’m with Greg. Great Lakes boating – no salt, barnacles, hurricanes, sharks, jellyfish, etc. Just lots and lots of rain! Holy sh-t – the sun just came out. Quick – get the cover of the boat. I’m outta here!
Yup!
Would a wide putty knife attachment for a reciprocating (Sawzall) work? I have a much lighter weight Rigid recip saw that’s handier than heavyweight full size saw. That blade pops into the saw and you can scrape up vinyl flooring remains, flaking paint, and maybe barnicles?
Plate the hull in copper and no invertebrates with grow on it or near it.
Ahh – the joys of salt water moorage! It will be great when it’s done. One note though, I get concerned when I don’t see anything linking the boat stands to keep them from moving as you are under the boat, scraping away, especially on boats that are (relatively) light.
I can still remember my first job; working at a railway in Deep Creek VA scraping barnacles off freshly hauled boats. My boss would say “Boy, make sure you get the nickles off cause if you don’t, the paint won’t stick” In my mind whatever glue nature conjured up to hold barnacles to the bottom is far better than epoxy or gorilla glue.
More scraping, but got one coat on! There is hope.
Its a bottom paint. 75 %Blue, 25% black mixed. Next coat tomorrow after moveing the stands.
Add a piece of wood as a Woody Boater sign so you’re still a Woody Boater when you go for rides in it.
All of this is fun and interesting. But….I’m still wondering why it’s 2 weeks after the “Michigan Gang” show in Algonac happened and nothing has been posted. A magnificent rare GarWood won multiple awards. A show that always has great Chris Crafts but this year were featuring GarWood boats. The home of GarWood’s boating empire is just up the river a short distance. Logan Wood II from the family, presented a special award of the significant collection present. Just a legitimate question. I’m a member of the Michigan Chapter and the Water Wonderland Chapter in Michigan. I have a few boats and I have a great appreciation for them. Maybe an arm chair quarterback Michigan Gang poster can provide you feedback and pictures. .
