Rebuilding Gary Beck’s Mail Box

As I slowly emerge from the Covid fog that has consumed me this time. Now I am in the can’t taste of smell anything faze. I was able to take advantage of a little good weather, 65 degrees and rebuild the mailbox that has been hit by building contractors and such over the past couple years.

The post is from a collection of porch posts I. found years ago. And after it being whacked enough times broke, so it needed to be changed quickly, a 4×6 so the mail is delivered. And then with some time off had the chance to rebuild. But had to paint because of all the damage. So what to do?

The 4×6 on the right, I loved the brightwork version. But? Ugh

I love my mail box not just because it’s cool, but it was a gift from Gary Beck, a long time Woody Boater who suddenly passed away in 2020. You may recall the stories on the mailbox, in fact Mailbox’s have been kinda a regular thing here. Anyway,

The mailbox had a couple scratches. Fixed, and the metal base was a mangled pile of mess. This is one coat of Sweet Peas Green from Kirby paints

Okay, I might have gotten a little carried away with some paint and gold. But. And the base is now from a boat part. I think it was a rudder cable fitting. Hopefully you cant see the chucks of 6×6 pieces attached at the bottom. This time I set the post deeper

Okay I got real carried away. Added some compass graphics in the varnished area. And hand lettered a number on the box to colover some of the scratches I couldnt get out.
