Rugged Shark VS Termite Terror. A Classic Boat Shoe..t Out!
A couple weeks ago I received an email asking if we would review a pair of shoes for an online shoe store. PlanetShoes.com The deal was, they would send me a pair of shoes and I would say something about them. “Sure I said” as long as I can tell it like it is.. I high risk move for a shoe store, after all the review will be on the web for anyone to search. I did not need any new shoes.. I have a bunch including my trusty Orange Top Siders..But what the hell.. So a couple days later, BAM! in the mail box here are a nice pair of Rugged Shark shoes..

The Box of Rugged Shark Shoes from the good folks at PlanetShoes.com They have a massive selection..
Of course I google them and find out these are the bomb for boaters.. All the fishing folks love them as well. OK… That these are shoes designed specifically for boaters.. Here is the Rugged Shark Link
OK.. For Woody Boaters? We will see.. The first thing I noticed is that they look great and weigh about …nothing… Soft ride to boot…to shoe… Like wearing running soft hiking shoes..

The only possible issue that was brought up, for Woody Boats is that the large areas can gather sand and mud.. Then scratch the varnish? My attatude is that a scratched deck out weighs a broken foot.. been down that trail .
As a traditionalist I wanted to hate them. But Dammmmmmmm I couldn’t.. I slipped them on and had them on all day..Then the next day, and have not taken them off for over a week..

We had some massive rain here in DC.. So i tested how dry my feet would be.. Dry as a bone.. This bad photo shows the test.. I had to clean out a drain in my driveway..
They have been all over Washington D.C, on about 20 boats, in a rain storm and through airports, the LA scene, even Oreo our 3 month old Puppy took a shot at them once.. But, the most trying test.. Jimmy’s Mako with his dogs while we went out to shoot Termite Terror! Dear god! These dogs are crazy.. They run around the boat and bite at the water. Then run around more and more..
Why is this relevant to a shoe..t out story.. They soak the decks of the boat.. SOAK IT! I was dripping wet.. And when I do a shoot. I have to chase the shot on the boat. I am running around. Hanging on things, I need traction.. I have broken a toe doing this in my bare feet.. Slid on my fat a$$ in my slippery crocs, my top siders are the latest go to shoe.. UNTIL NOW..
I was like Spider man on that boat.. And they stayed on my feet.. I recall a time were I had to change directions and got slammed into by one of soaking mop dogs.. I stuck to the boat like glue.. It was amazing.. So.. As a review goes.. I was blown away.. AMAZING SHOE! and would gladly buy more.
Bring on the old splintered dock wood, bring on soaking decks. Bring on the water logged dogs, Bring it all on. Because i have a pair of Rugged Sharks on…
Here are some of the shots of Termite Terror, thanks to my new Rugged Sharks and iPhone!

Termite Terror with the gang having fun.. This boat is so fast it takes some fast leg work to stay up with it. Since all I use is my iPhone and dont have a telephoto lense its a challenge. Oddly great shoes help get the shot

The fun day had to eventualy come to an end.. UGH, just crabs, burgers and potato saled left to kill..
Thanks to the good folks at Planetshoes.com and Rugged Shark for giving me a reason to go out on the water..
gee matt, I was all set to get a pair of those shoes until I looked at the pictures…in the one where you are standing in the puddle…it appears you have them on the wrong feet!! ?
Not surprised….just wondering if that impacted the review?
John in Va.
It was a crazy day with all that rain.. Darn plugged drain.. Left about 6 inches of rain in my driveway and garage.. The shoes were better than boots..
Two for the price of one! I found some nice *plant* shoes for my garden, as well as the boat shoes the rest of the article describes.
Great looking shoes.
Maybe next time someone will send you a belt to review…
I’m looking for a weight reducing product as I figure it will have the effect of making my boat go faster. Any plans to review such a product?
Good morning Mr. Smith. Might you be willing to review some of our latest Spanx undergarments for your readers?
I believe you’ll find there’s nothing like a little more control while you are in control.
“Spanx — Bring Out The Sportsman In You.”
Only if Suzie would model the Spanx. If Matt were to model them I think I would SPUKE. LOL
I am so going out and getting some Spanx! Get out your blinders..
I’m not falling for one review. I think everyone who posted here should get a pair and then we can have a group review.
And PLEASE! no undergarments unless they are on the Donzi girls….
You probably ought to rethink that Spanx purchase as Jessica Simpson says it will give you a case of “swamp ass”. Don’t just take my word you can hear her explanation at 3:30 in her interview http://www.hulu.com/watch/338940
This is why I love this site.. We start out on a conversation about cool boat shoes on a classic boat site, and its turned into swamp ass and men wearing spanx..
Does anyone have some needles I can use to stick in my eyes?
As the self elected Sargent at Yardarms I’ve got a bat. Just hold out until Algonac and I’ll make you forget all of this.
I noticed they have several “Bill Dance” models. If they were to come out with a SoV or Woodyboater signature line I would be all over a pair.
remember everyone dont send in a comment that is selling something or it will be rejected as spam
Shoe Hooker!
It just cost me my sole!
Would these adhere to rules of no dark sole shoes?
No. these are classic rubber soles like on any of my boat shoes.. Just a more radical modern design..
Excellent Matt!
I just dont know where to start….so I wont.
Spaulding! Get your foot off the boat!
Sorry Grandpa…
Just walk away! There will another chance in the morning..
Do they come in wide sizes? Some of us have fat feet and heads.
These look like the “bostonwhaler” of boatshoes….a little searching will find boatshoes from D&G, marked down to $645…….those must be the “aquariva” of boatshoes…..
Damn, the shoes are made in China! Can’t we make a boat shoe in the USA?
New Balance and Brooks Brothers but you’d look funny driving a boat in a pair of Brooks Brothers wing tips and bathing suit.
I bet Matt will try it… After all, he is a trend setter.
Or
Somebody – phone the fashion police!
The big question is: do they stink after a while? I have had some brands for years and they are fine, others, ick with in a month.
God bless you for asking that question. We have all had the same issue. And I have had these for a month now. Ya have to keep things dry or there is a faint smell. But all my shoes after being wet seem to do that. So I make sure they dry out before i reuse them.
Matt. I need a new pair of boat shoes and I’m taking your advise. Shark shoes are the ones. Thanks. Keep up the great work.
