Sir, I Say Sir, Do You Have A Chris Craft Portable Fog Horn?
Along with the tools, of course you need a factory fog horn. And yes I tried it. Guess what it sounds like a horn. Thanks again to Jim Staib of Fine Wood Boats for supplying one of these with the random tools. I suppose these are needed when your battery is dead, or maybe there is a certain tone it leaves that some how cuts through the fog?
Whatever it is, its cool to have one, and of course we could not leave you without some great quotes from Fog Horn Leg Horn. Take it away , I say!
The fog horn is cool, but the cartoon is terrific. Right up there with my all time hero, Bullwinkle the moose. I could hardly drink my coffee!
Foghorn Leghorn, one of the greatest onscreen characters ever!
Lucky 7 had one from the factory.
Matt……you need to go to a boat show. Too much time on your hands!
Checked my hull card. No Fog Horn, but American Beauty came with a Fog Bell.
Looks like a cocktail bell to me.
Boats over 26′ had fog bell.
Well it’s official folks, Matt can now toot his own horn about anything!
Lily has her original foghorn. Label still intact. Toot toot!
I have one just like that. I have been putting off rewiring the horn on my cruiser. It works fine when my asthma isn’t acting up.
send a pic of the lable? Thats cool
The mega phone helps it project.
I have everything but the tools.
I’ll have to take a better one next time I’m in Michigan. My mother took this one with her iPad. This is as good as it gets. It’s usually a shot of her finger over the lens.
Here’s the red label version. Made by Wilcox Crittenden. Staib has a WC parts catalog somewhere showing the horns.
HEre is one from Brian Robininson. I wonder which color is right for a 1948?
This orange label one was out of a 1951 Racing Runabout
And my orange label horn is from a ’52 Sportsman. Paul’s 60’s Sea Skiff has the one with a red label.
There’s your answer, Matt. Anything but an orange sticker on your horn and Brian will deduct 1 point.
And here’s Mayer blowing Paul’s horn. That’s about all I can contribute to “Fog Horn Day” on WoodyBoater.
Nice job Mike, out on the water, not much fog though.
My hull card for my 1966 shows a signal horn so I picked up the chrome version of the same horn. Every thing was chrome in the 60’s.
EZ blow label is made. Not sure the size or what to print it on.
I found a nice chrome foghorn on E-bay that is similar to the ones shown, quite heavy gauge metal. It even has a screen over the bell end (I guess so you don’t inhale bugs). It sounds a C# for those interested. We use it as a fish call when the fishing is poor and people’s spirits need to be raised.
Our 1954 22′ Sea Skiff DENBY still has her orange-label E-Z Blow horn; it was shown on her hull card as standard equipment. Big fun for the crowds in Green Lake to hear it at boat shows- it’s LOUD!
